I would assume Phillips and then the best of Hansen/Jones/Williams/Harding.

We actually have a nice group of LBs to work with here. Jones had four starts last year while Hansen and Williams each had one.

I've heard that the staff really likes Hansen and that he's performed well in the first week of practices.

They've also moved Abercrombie to Weak-Side DE since we're pretty deep at LB.

I need to brush up on our lineup.f
Forgot about Phillips and Harding and don't know the others.

I might make my own depth chart and post it so everyone can better visualize our team

Out of that group I feel like Ford would be the most likely to commit and who knows who he will bring with him

I thought he said he was going to wait until signing day since he doesn't want to change his mind and decommit from a school again?

I'm guessing this is Atwell. A couple of CBs went our way for him today.

Robert from Illiniboard made one which might help:

A lot can change from now until the beginning of the season but he had Phillips/Watson/Jones as the starters.

Like I said above, Hansen has been impressive this week and may push Phillips out of the starting spot. Phillips was injured this Spring so maybe that's why he's fallen behind a bit?

There's lots of interesting position battles going on like the one for 2nd CB. Lovie said someone really needs to step up there but I'm guessing it will be Sumpter since Hayes struggled a lot when he played last year. I thought Watkins would be in the mix since he had a couple of starts last year but Robert has him at Nickel?

There's also some Freshmen like Roundtree who have been really impressive in the first week of practice. Maybe he starts ahead of Crawford?

Crawford is the for sure starter right now. Its Adesanye that might get pushed out.

Might be we get Ford but the kid right now he loves the limelight to much. I doubt he commits until the season ends. Maybe then so I am going with I don't know save probably not Ford, now.

Using the 247 class calculator, Avery will move us ahead of Iowa in the big ten 2018 rankings

That's beautiful. If you're not better than Iowa, who are ya.

Lovie and Defense have always been linked together......where does a Defense always have to start? Up Front.

DE: Carney, Roundtree
DT: K.Green, Oladipo, Avery

Add in the other freshman for Depth.

Lovie is trying to make a statement. First evidence that change is coming is the huge impact/change to the DLine.

And really the main change we can see is the DL and the Massive Oline kids we are getting and still going after.

Nice. Good point. We all know it starts with the lines, but it's easy to focus on the skill positions. Lovie is the man.

NFL teams start up front . DL and OL have to be a priority. Recruits get the word that Lovie can get them to next level , they will flock. Short term results already proof. One best thing done was hire Lovie. Big name =big recruits. #wewillwin.:illinois:

Totally agree! We have a real professional running the program now.

Something that a lot of football fans dont understand. You can have Joe Montana, Jim Brown, and Jerry Rice but if nobody can block you're not winning many games. A good Oline can mask so many skill deficiencies. Ditto for the Dline. Its all about containment and disruption, respectively.

If the Oline can make enough room for two or three years minim every play, the five or six yarder is a first down, and it means that longer plays are field position changers. Which is Lovie's game. The big play type game is like hoping to win the lottery. Speaking of which, a good Oline gives the punter time to to make that precision punt that again plays the field position game.

Yeah, I know. Captain Obvious speaking. But third-and-ten really sucks.

It seems to me this is just what Lovie and staff have been doing. We had a nice OL and DL class last year, We have a nice start to the same this year, other then Pearl needing to gain weight I like all our OLand DL guys so far, I truly love Slaughters game, the kid is a better pass blocker then most guys we have right now in my opinion, he just turned 17 so still needs to get stronger but as he gets his man strength it will make him a better run blocker, pass blocking is footwork, run blocking is power
