One other thing about Lawson (above) is that he never signed a Letter of Intent. If he doesn't make it here by August, could he stay at Garden City and play there in the fall? He could then sign in December as an early enrollee. I understand he could sit out this fall and not do anything but if he's not on campus and he's not playing at a JUCO then he's wasting valuable practice time/game experience that could help prepare him for 2018.

if he isn't here by the start of the season he wont be here ever. The main draw to him is having 2 years to play left. I think the staff would rather get another 18 QB either way so would be no need for him to come with just a year left

He has three years to play two so he could sit out this year and be eligible for to play in 2018 and 2019. He enrolled at Virginia Tech in 2015 where he did play as a True Freshman. He then transferred to a JC last year. The question is where will he be this fall? If he's not here then what is he going to be doing?

We are going after another '18 QB regardless, but I agree that a group of Crouch/Taylor/Thomas/JGJ/C/O 18 QB is fine for 2018 and I'd like to see Illinois move on if Lawson doesn't make it here by August.

No wish to offend anyone but I would like to have either Bowman or Littlejohn committed before we come down us or Iowa St for Eleby

No offense taken (obviously). I'd rather have Littlejohn for a number of reasons. He's a better fit for McGee's offense and he could also be moved to WR if he doesn't work out at QB.

Eleby is strictly a QB recruit, does not appear to be that much of a dual threat QB and there could be issues with his size (lack of). Littlejohn is 6'4.

Still, I'm going by who appears to be the most interested in us and who the staff appears to be going after the hardest. At the moment there appears to be more mutual interest with respects to Eleby. He's made numerous unofficial visits to Champaign unlike the other QBs we've offered.

I don't have insider information, however. I know the offer to Bowman is relatively new. We're his only P5 offer at the moment so we'll see what happens.

TJ Ivy to drop his list tonight. Not sure how many schools he is listing.

Lots of new offers again

The staff seems to be very good at offering exciting sounding talent all over the US. But we need to close on some. I assume it takes longer to get player from out of the area to visit. Or to commit. But we need to start making some progress.

That's why I said if he isn't here before the start of the season he will not be here ever. Sure he could sit out the fall get things in order and then early enroll and still have 2 years, but by then I do not see him being a big need here. I think Lovie and the staff would rather get high school kids when possible over JC, so they will move on

Easy to offer; hard to close.

On twitter people are saying ILL is not taken a commitment tonight..........

Reeks of a non-committable offer. Which I would really be disappointed with because the kid seems solid on the field and is from an unbelievably good program.

Hope to hear that Illinois DID accept this commitment. We need the momentum.

yeah I agree I hope so as well, I hate this offering kids but them not being able to commit crap if its true. Why offer them if you don't want them, looks bad in my book

I agree with all of the above as well...we desperately need some recruiting momentum, and while I don't know too much about this kid, it sounds like he comes from a great football school who beat STA this year, so he is probably well coached.

Fleck is crushing it at Minny.

12 Top 1000 recruits committed (roughly equivalent to top 100 recruits in basketball) and several more listed at "Warm" on their targets list: http://minnesota.247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/Targets

I'm going to assume Lovie will close strong like he did last year, but I'm concerned he's going to have a really rough time closing recruits late if the team can't win at least 5-6 games and look much better doing it (which will be tough given the QB situation and defensive losses).
Looks like Fleck/Minny just offered one of our OL targets in the St. Louis area:

It will be interesting to see these recruitments play out.

+1 we already have so much to overcome. We don't need this added to our resume

I have spend the last week and half watching a lot of tape. Something like 70-75 including Turner's while it to me was a good tape seeing like about 40 slot and wide out tapes. There a good 17 I liked better and 7 had the same grade so for me waiting is not a problem on the receiver position.
