Maybe its just me but I see a more athletic Rex Grossman type with Robinson. We know Lovie likes Rex. :thumb:

Taking off the O&B colored glasses, and looking from an outside perspective, I'd say Arizona is more stable.

Again, from the outside, Lovie might not last three-four years unless he wins. We as Loyalty fans understand Whitman and Lovie are looking long term, but others view two poor seasons, maybe a probable third, and wonder how long Lovie will last.

A new coach, while a risk wrt newness is likely to have four years minimum, or the time Colmam would be there.

Good Points

just a quick peak at this kid's twitter activity and it seems like he has had a frustrating recruitment. Totally speculating but it seems like he wanted to play in a Power 5 conference. I am going to be shocked if he doesn't sign on

Called that one. Hey .300 gets you in the HOF;)

We generally only play 2 LBs (most of our sets use a 5th DB) and Phillips, Harding, Knight, Williams, Hansen, Marchese, Shogbonyo and Mondesir are all scholarship LBs who are expecting to play with Tolson coming in.

I don't think we are 'so thin' there at all.

When it comes to difference makers, I think we're pretty thin. Especially since Phillips is gone after this year.

So it looks like we close the class out with Manny Allen and Merlin Robertson, right?

That would be nice .

I bet They will oversign by 1 or 2 , if it’s the right guys . They ALWAYS find a way to shuffle the slots around come May/June .

It’s part science & part art .

Also looks like we're recruiting DB Dylan Watt out of Cali...no clue where he comes into play but his other offer is Northern Arizona. So there's that. Doubt he's walking on.

Surprised Lovie and staff never warmed up to Cadarius Gaskin.

Still feeling good about Merlin Robertson. But Manny Allen who is still a commit to Louisville just visited them this past weekend and then updated his twitter profile pictures to him in Louisville gear. Not saying it's impossible but highly implausible he comes here. I think we had a better shot at him on his original commitment date when he was set to decide at the Polynesian Bowl. Dayven Coleman is still a guy we have a chance with although the Crystal Ball says otherwise.

Pardon my ignorance, but do grad transfers count against the 25 class limit or just the 85 team limit?

I've lost track with recent transfers out, but I thought we will be under 85 team limit even with a full 25 (28?) man class?

Anyone please feel free to correct me but...

Grad transfers count against both 25 man class and overall 85 count.

Walkons earning scholarships are a little confusing. I've read that underclassmen earning scholarships count against 25 man class and 85 count but upperclassmen earning schoraships (i.e. Walker and Marchese) only count against 85 count.

Illini football currently sits at 55 returning scholarship players. Add the maxed out 25 man class and next fall's roster is likely 5 scholarships short of the 85 mark. There seems to be random loopholes that come up (blue shirting) so who knows if they can figure a way to add 5 more by the start of the season. Assuming they don't, there are currently 7 seniors so the 2019 class would currently sit at 13 available scholarship spots. This number is almost guaranteed to increase as next year will likely be the final transfer purge of Beckman/Cubit players.

I wonder if Manny Allen deciding to stick with Louisville has something to do with why Sam Mays seems to not be transferring. (I think I saw that on the transfer thread Mays is coming back or is back on the team roster)

I don't have the motivation to go back and look at the timeline but I also wonder if getting rid of McGee had a negative impact on Allen choosing us.
