He told JWerner he wants to play QB and the only Power 5 schools recruiting him for that are Nebraska and ILL. I honestly hope he signs on then one of our current QBs turns out to be awesome and he asked to be moved to a slot receiver. That way we get the best of both worlds. But really, ill take him in just an Illinois uniform

No. Abe, my guy, landed in Illinois by way of Indiana. So we beat IU and KY for the greatest president ever! And he was 6'4.5 "! That's the kind of big Illinois and the country needed. Obviously, he wasn't surrounded by great guards.

Seriously, something is happening down there in Champaign. Congratulations Lovie and staff.

The highlighted had me rolling. But I still wonder if it was too soon?

J Werner on his show has said he has done research and he wants to be a Corner. There is less of them so they get paid more. Also, I read he came on this unofficial to see some of the players again and meet GB face to face.

This recruitment makes a lot more sense knowing that he wants to be a corner. We've got a really, really strong staff for a guy that wants to develop into a pro cornerback.

The defensive future would look pretty darn good if we could land a linebacker like Cooper.

I really hate to be this guy, but being honest, I will believe it when an LOI is signed. This is where Illinois athletics has gotten me.

I understand how you feel this way. But he has been offered by everybody, visited big time programs, been on campus more than once, and has friends already signed up to play. From my perspective (not an insider), this commitment looks pretty solid. Barring anything catastrophic happening to the program, I expect to seem him play in the orange and blue. This is just what the program needed!

On an interesting side note, Elijah Thomas urged Beason’s commitment to Illinois

He would've solved most all of our frontcourt problems this year. JG was always so close...

You would hope all of the local guys on campus this weekend would start to believe just a little after seeing a player like Beason commit:illinois:

The thought of Hobbs, Adams, Beason at CB and Williams as a safety is looking mighty fine.

The core of young defensive players we are accumulating is awesome. Think of all the DL bodies we have paired with that secondary.

Great for Lovie and the coaching staff for successfully kicking it up a notch in the recruiting game. Methinks current team members better take notice and resolve to also kick their own game up a notch this season, or else!!

Welcome aboard the O&B train Mr. Beason!!

This. is. HUGE. To get a player of this caliber to commit this early in the recruiting cycle is fantastic for the staff. It's hard to be the first one to commit to a program that has been struggling. So pumped Beason was willing to be that guy! Hopefully now it will be easier to sell the rest of the recruits on the staff's vision. This could really be the beginning of turning our fortunes around in recruiting.

He did? Man.

When I heard the news I assumed he was an '18 commit. A lot can happen before he gets here. But he sounds like my third candidate for all-Illinois ambassador team.

Re: Williams. Do we really need another QB with the name Isiah or Isaiah Wllliams?

YES!

Lovie was hired to recruit. I love the man's sideline demeanor. I'd play for that guy.
I mean, he was the last coach to take the Bears to a Super Bowl. Sounds, looks like he's got a great new staff. Good luck, best wishes.

Lovie was hired to win. Yes, recruiting is a big part of that. But only a part.

there are about:
35 five star recruits .1 %
400 four star recruits 1.3 %
1400 three star recruits 4.7%
in any given year

That is interesting. Surely Beason is a 4.75 star recruit. I would guess he is much closer in ability to those ranked 30-35 than he is to those ranked 300 or 400. :D

This gives yet another perspective on the argument that the five star ranking system is flawed.

Welcome, Beason to the orange and blue!

Imagine getting Juice Williams and Arrelious Benn AGAIN, only now with a competent coach.

Man that defense could really be something. Nice to have something to get excited about! Grats to all involved.
