Isn't there still a good chance Thomas ends up in Miami?

Not sure, just wanted to make sure I was getting the numbers right.

And Werner's numbers in that tweet also add up to 84. So we're all on the same page here.

Really bad signs since Friday. Yesterday it was reported he wasn't at a team meeting (but there's a video of the meeting, at which it looked more like a rave). He posted a snap story of him in at least one jacket in what looked like a classroom; current weather in Miami is 75 degrees.

FWIW, I've been checking the UI FB twitter announcement of JT committing; it hasn't been taking down. Personally, I'd bet he suits up for the Akron game, but the money line is probably as close to even as it ever gets.

If you look him up on the student directory, he comes up. Unless there's unfortunately someone with the same name. I cropped out his email for obvious reasons. That means he has to be enrolled which means he literally can't go back to Miami, right? This is basically just like Kipper in basketball.

Adding Petitbon and assuming Thomas, I see a few options for that last scholarship

(A) Continue pursuing Claiborne for a second freshman o-lineman
(B) Pursue another incoming freshman at another position (LB? WR?)
(B) Add another transfer now
(C) Hold onto it for a transfer that Illinois hasn't been connected to yet (after Spring ball)
(D) Hold onto it for Tate with some understanding now that he'll transfer (after Spring ball)

Did it show other info, i.e. city/state they are from? Does anyone know if thats his actual name? Jeff Thomas is no Kofi Cockburn, the likelihood of another with his name is not 0.

It doesn't give any more information. It lists every students middle name no matter what. I found nothing using Jeff Thomas' middle name when I googled.

This tweet alone is a miracle. In hindsight, I think the staff did this correctly. Load Freshmen and Sophomores, when the dust settles fill in the blanks with transfers and Athletes.

This is the first time since Zook that I believed the program can legitimately compete.

Good luck storming the castle boys!!

Random observation/question. In Werner’s article it says that Richie will graduate in May. So clearly he’s able to commit to a grad transfer before actually graduating. What’s to stop Tate from doing the same? I’m guessing it has something to do with not graduating until summer vs spring? Anyone know the rules on announcing transfers?

I'm pretty sure he can say whatever he wants.

Estes announced a transfer here and it never happened. Jalen Greene announced he was transferring here last year but ended up at Utah State instead.

The NCAA rules are more restrictive in terms of what coaches and Universities can say about transfers and recruits.

That’s not the same Jeff Thomas

So, we can keep Lovie?

I thought we wanted him out.

What exactly is happening around here?!?
JW announcing football at UI is dead. Immediate flooding of zuppke field ;imminent movement of the club team from the ice arena outdoors to Memorial Stadium (soon renamed the Jeff Thomas Memorial Ice Arena). Bubble over the new ice surface ala indoor practices of old. No word yet if Lovie will accept the position of defensive coach for the hockey. Kofi Cockburn now a goalie hockey commit.

They will have a scholarship available for Tate, so D seems most likely to happen.

Heard Lovie is a back checking genius.

Thomas has reached out to UM about possibly returning. According to InsideTheU’s Andrew Ivins, Thomas has only signed a financial aid agreement with Illinois, so he is not bound to that school.
