Seems to fit in line with a few of my friend's view of Lovie, who are Head Coaches in Illinois. Such a shame.

“We have our season right now,” Illinois coach Lovie Smith said Tuesday. “That’s what we’re concentrating on right now.”

Definitely don't want to lose focus on this season to think about the future. /s

Looking at the list of speakers, how good were we feeling on Oct 8th 2011? We just left Bloomington Indiana with a 41 to 20 W over the hoosiers and a 6-0 record to take with us to play OSU the next week. Ron Zook's energy has not been replaced since he was fired. He is great to listen to in these clinics.

I hope he retires after the season. He’s a bum. This other coaches have their seasons too and a few attending aren’t even working for a program in the state any more. We have more former coaches there than current.

Bad news - East St. Louis star receiver, Dominic Lovett, is apparently flipping to Mizzou from Arizona St. That new coach has basically pushed Lovie out of the Metro East within one year.

Coach Reed posted this. Not him FYI. Lots of well known athletes in the responses.

Oh man...being a father changes so much in how I view things. I wanted to jump through my phone and beat that dudes @&&.

To the topic at hand, if this was a valuable way to reach out to other In-state coaches, and we didn’t take it, then I guess Lovie has truly abandoned Illinois.

How do you repair the optics of your relationship with the state, it’s players, and it’s coaches if you are Lovie Smith?

I’m not sure you do.

This is a complete fail by Lovie. I attended this clinic for roughly 10 years and had great times both at the clinic and in the evenings. One of the highlights was mingling with the Illini staff and the other presenters. Zook’s staff was by far the best. I understand that COVID has caused this to be a virtual event, but other conference head coaches are participating during their season. It is situations like this that turn Illinois prep coaches against the Illini and hurts in-state recruiting. In order to excel as a college coach, you must excel at these type of events. FAIL!

Final straw for me. Bye, Lovie.

I feel the same way. Attended these clinics for many years and shocked at this decision. Big news today was Tom Allen speaking - all sorts of excitement for that on Twitter from IHSA coaches I’m linked to. If we aren’t careful that will just be another border state coach poaching Illinois’ talent.

Mizzou / ESL - if the above poster is right on Drinkwitz flipping the ESL WR that is another dagger. He has killed all STL momentum we had cold.

Also hate to see a few of our commits deferring to February signing period. (Don’t blame them at all, they have all the leverage). Following early signing period we’ll face more competition to hold them as teams start to look around at unsigned players to flip - Illinois commits will have huge targets on their back to be swayed

I wouldn't go after a transfer qb for next season. We have to trust IW and Duece for next season. IW is getting some good experience. Sure it would be nice to get Milton if we didn't have anyone for next season. Unless you were to get a Fields or Lawrence to come in for one year go with IW.

Looks like my sources were right, Dominic Lovett just flipped to Mizzou. Eli Drinkwitz looks like an up-and-coming star.

Adding on....
Illinois made a big deal that they offered zooms in the spring but only 1 or 2 schools joined.
The head coach they are literally playing this week is part of these meetings. Good speakers, lots of interest. Sheesh.

Someone debated with me that hiring a person from Texas would help with in state recruiting. Being upset with coaches is childish in this line of business. Good luck.

Hopefully he won’t be at Mizzou long. Already some schools taking notice but probably 1-2 more years of him though

If this keeps up we're going to need to recruit fans from other states to fill Memorial stadium. If we won't put the effort to really recruit the state and we keep producing a below average team then where are the fans going to come from?
