Could this be a Monster Class? The first 2 are extremely high for Illini standards. Could we really, really be building our program back?!?!?!? This is very exciting stuff.

It's a very good start to the class. Something to keep in mind is that Feagin's commitment is "punching above our weight class" and are the type of wins that Illinois needs to replicate 2x/3x a year to take the next step (progressing to 5x/year in the near future). Need to start sprinkling higher regarded talent across the roster. Ignoring any class rating inflation, Hayden's AVG rating is on par with last year's class composite rating (what does this mean? Hayden's ranking is consistent with the average recruit in the 2022 class). If Illinois can pick up more and more players like Hayden that are closer to the floor then it's a sign of recruiting making progress.

I don't know how many recruits are expected in this class but my guess is the 2023 recruiting class AVG score will be incrementally better than the 2022 class. Would love if that number started getting into the high-.8600's or low-.8700's. That would put Illinois on a similar level as Wisconsin or Maryland (based on last year's numbers). Another goal would be can Illinois' '23 class break into the top-10 of the B1G. Bielema's staff was 12th last year but that is with some benefit of taking 26 recruits. It's going to be a lot harder to get 10th if they only take 21-22 recruits.

I think we'll hit those #s.

It's an aggressive goal but it's something the staff is going to need to hit in the future. For example, Maryland had 21 commitments last year and had four 4-stars. Could see some players skyrocket after they commit or late bloomers. That said, it's tough to see a map towards four 4-stars in this class based on the current availability & interest. That's not the only path, you can accrue a lot of high 3-star players. Jyaire Hill is going to be a bellwether for this class. Get him and you'll see some articles about how Bielema is seeing serious dividends from his focus on in-state recruiting. Malik Elzy is also going to be important but Hill will be most important IMO.

I really hope we get Hill. He screams potential NFL player to me and got everything you look for in a DB. If he commits, I might write an article 😂

I don't get why Feagin was so highly recruited and is punching above our weight class. I've seen him play his sophomore and junior year against my son's team and other quality 1a and 2a teams. He gets shut down and his motor is not 4 quarters. I can see him being a serviceable linebacker or TE! I am happy to have him as a recruiting win. I sincerely hope he exceeds what I've seen for 2 years.
Hayden is a Massive win, thank you coach Hawthorne and Patterson!!!!

If Feagin is "punching above our weight class," and you're not too impressed with him, that kind of proves the point that our recruiting needs to improve under BB. Early returns seem to indicate that it will.

He’s 6’3 225 lbs with speed. Top recruits in the country get their rankings based off physical measurable‘s for the most part. Feagin’s way above our recent pay-grade

Could be a bad offensive line. I remember people saying similar things about Leshoure and how he was getting crushed in high school.

Not too many kids can beat a team by themselves no matter what level you are playing on. The question would be can anyone on your son's team beat him one on one? That is the measure that most use for recruits. The only concern will be how he responds to playing against kids similar in size to him. In any situation, its worth the gamble.

If anyone has watched film they would know Arthur has zero talent other than feagin, the OL are all about 5'8" 150. It's hard for feagin to be able to do anything with that team, put him on a better he would easily dominate.
