I know the Kankakee coach very, very well ... His Dad is an HS coach in Indy as well and his team is #1 in the state ...

Derek knows how to play the game and get kids ... :cool: Expect them to continue to have talented kids as long as he's there

For the record, I don’t think this will happen and I don’t think he’ll move for a slightly elevated program.

Ive known a few high school football coaches over the years. That is a tight fraternity.
Lovie made a HUGE mistake by disrespecting them over and over again

The dad, John Hart, also was a longtime coach in Illinois including Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Interestingly enough the Kankakee AD is a native of Mt. Carmel as is Deredk Hart.

They were decent, but not nearly as good as Joliet Catholic or Providence, who's players start playing PopWarner in 2nd grade

Thomas Guynes - OL - Michigan
Tyrone Noble - DB - Michigan
Tim Olmstead - LB - Purdue
Tyjuan Hagler - DB - Cincy
Jay Fanning - DE - Louisville

Starting linemen….he didn’t say OL or DL. It’s just hard with football….way more guys….the casual fan wouldn’t know who say a guy like Palcho or hank Beatty would be if they ran into them on the street. It’s harder to get exposure

To my knowledge, he's lived more than 80% of his life, and had most of his athletic and professional success in the upper Midwest area of iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. I would guess that he can handle the winters. It also means he's familiar with the people, contacts, and recruiting grounds.

Here's hoping he continues to keep the Illini on an upward trajectory. If a blue blood comes calling, that has to be tempting for any coach. I don't think he's quite there, but would love to have him in that conversation after continued program success.

But that's how it works. You want your coaches to be in demand, because that means your team and program are exciting and winning. And hopefully that helps you pull in another great coach to replace them, and keep the momentum going.

The football players don't walk around campus in Orange Illini t-shirts, Illini sweats, and orange and blue Nike shoes and a Nike Illini backpack anymore? When did that stop?

Just teasing. I wouldn't recognize most of them on campus either, at least by name. Basketball was a different story.

Illinois football extended a scholarship offer to junior college defensive lineman Anterio Thompson on Sunday. A freshman at Iowa Western Community College, the 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive lineman through six games this season has 11 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Thompson also holds power-five scholarship offers from NC State, Kansas, Nebraska and Washington State.

He’s originally from Virginia and looks like according to 24/7 that he has an official visit to NC St in December.
