Yeah. I hope he and pops was just traveling through town. Card would be great in my mind. How many years of eligibility does he have remaining?
you have to imagine they were at least in town to talk to BB & Lunney for a little . Maybe they were stopping at a few schools on a little trip thru Illinois & Indiana . any FBS school that would / could possibly use him .

I thought it interesting that when directly asked during today’s presser whether TDV would try to get a sixth year, Bielema did NOT rule that out, and to the contrary, made some statement about how DIA has made efforts for several players over the years.

I have no idea who is coming here to Illinois to play QB. But I know Illinois has their target already. And in my mind it’s Card. But the details they gave there are a few guys who fit the bill.
Definitely #1 on my list. Quality and the extra bonus is quantity in years of eligibility. BB will pick up a quality QB whoever it is

7th year. Tommy will be 25 when next season starts.

The coaching staff intends to help these kids reach their goals. If they can get Tommy another year and he out performs this past season, Tommy's future will definitely look alot different.

You really think so from a pro career perspective? I’m not so sure. Not saying I wouldn’t like to see him back, because I would. But it seems like he’d have to take a huge leap — and not statistically but in showing he has what the pros want — to improve draft stock.

Well, we would need an answer real soon if it's possible for him to be back for another year because we can't sit and wait very long, All the good transfer QB's will be gone if we wait too long.

yeah, big time timing issue here. I have zero faith the NCAA will make a quick decision. Can't put all of our eggs in this basket.

People are going to leap to what they feel are obvious conclusions due to Leary's brother and the fact that it's Bielema and an NC State QB but...

If you're Donovan why would you want your brother to come take the job you've been hoping to earn? If you're Devin why would you spend your remaining year of eligibility doing that to your brother?

It would be one thing if they weren't both QB's or if Donovan had the skillset to pivot to another position or something. Just don't see it.

I don't think Donovan expects to win the starting job this year. coaching staff seems to be pretty open about needing either Devito back or a transfer brought in.

Maybe Donovan knows he won't be a starter for a couple of years yet? If he has that attitude or knows that, then it's possible that he would wait behind his brother if he came here.

Donovan (duh!) is not going to be QB1 next season, regardless of who staff brings in.

Do you know Tommy's goal is to play professional football?

Point well taken and obviously I don't know what kind of rellationship they have. But Donovan is only a freshman, so if there's a good chance he won't be ready to take over the reigns next year anyways, Devin could be a good fit. He'll only have one year of eligibility remaining, and Donovan can learn under his brother for a year. That may appeal to both of em. Obviously just speculating.

There seems as if there is zero doubt the Illini will bring in a transfer QB for next year, and not for “competition” but to play next year. So he wouldn’t really be blocking him. Not saying he’ll come here or that we’re interested, but I’d think he’d enjoy being in same QB room helping to teach his brother and setting him up for possible success in 2024.

I agree with this of course, but I doubt he personally sees it that way. Most of the kids in the portal era don't want to wait 2 minutes for their turn much less 2+ seasons, particularly at the expense of their older brother.

Would *love* to be mistaken here, would be thrilled. Just doesn't add up to me.
