Not what I’m saying. No one’s committed. We will get a quality transfer QB. What I’m saying is we’re hosting top tier transfer QBs for visits….what do you think that means for DeVito?
My bad

I assume who ever the next QB is. We will know before school starts back up in January

was the WR Lott the only recruit that had committed, but seemed like the staff and/or him, went separate ways.
I assume he simply didnt sign with anyone yet ?
Werner podcast mentioned Lott decided to go on visits after committing to Illini. I didn’t know, but he mentioned if a committed player goes on additional visits, then commitment/ spot is not accepted anymore.

But maybe more to story as visits only happened this month. Maybe staff pushed after getting Dixon? But idk.
Werner:
12:40 p.m.: With three-star Florida wide receiver Teremun Lott clearly looking for an opportunity elsewhere, we've taken him off the Illinois commitment list even though he hasn't publicly decommitted. Lott took official visits this month to FIU and Rutgers.

I am hopeful Lott is going elsewhere because we have another WR coming that he will need to compete against for playing time

A bit of a tough spot unless BB knows Tommy’s not coming back. That’s the only logic that works.

thats the rumor.
while they (TDV & coaches) have not had an official notification from NCAA, they have had some informal communication that is telling them its HIGHLY unlikely .

A few unrelated questions enter my head last night

1. I am wondering if we have any idea yet which schools could successfully do a "Moneyball" with NIL?
2. How does the Illinois athletics' analytics department stack up to others. I would not be shocked if Bama and Georgia have analytics departments that would make the Dodgers, Rays, and Asterisks blush.

who we have getting 25-30 carries a game next year for us should not be a concern - there are 3 players who can be that guy
who we have taking snaps is a much bigger worry right now

I think BB is going to maintain radio silence between now and when school opens in Jan.

Players may tweet, etc, but #ILFB will be off the air.

Eh, Depth perhaps. Proven quality is a different story. Need to go bowling again next year with a relatively easy schedule (like this years). Depending on Love and an oft-injured McCray is not ideal
I’m not much of a Love fan. Not saying I’d want to lose him to Purdue, but just not overly impressed with him. I know it’s a relatively small sample size, but take away the Northwestern game and he averaged about 2.5 ypc in B1G play. In his career he’s averaging 3.5 ypc. Maybe the Northwestern game portends greater things for him, but I’m not sold.

I am not real worried about filling coaching positions or roster spots. If anything I am waiting to see who else leaves or declares for the NFL Draft before the deadline hits in a few weeks. Keeping a close eye on the DL spots.

BB has overachieved in both seasons he has been here. It is just that time of year where doubt comes into the mind of some. Good teams reload not rebuild....time to keep reloading. There is plenty of talent in the portal and if BB thinks we need an upgrade or more depth he will issue that position.

I get the desire to bring in a more dependable back. Love had some moments this year but other times where he was ineffective. McCray had a lost season this year and has also been ineffective since the 2021 Penn State game (37 carries for 112 yards).

That said, I haven't seen a many intriguing RBs in the portal but I'm sure Illinois would be a great landing spot for one based on the offense and Bielema. The caveat is bringing in a RB seems like it would trigger one on the current roster to leave. If you bring in a good junior RB, would Love immediately leave? What if someone like Laughery isn't seeing available playing time and enters the portal? In this perspective, the RB you bring in has to be viewed as a trade acquisition.

Personally, there are plenty of blue chip guys (Love, Laughery, Feagin (probably a year away)), proven commodities (McCray), and intriguing skill sets (Anderson) to believe you can leave things be. If anything, I would be interested in a RB that has proven more in the pass game, both blocking and catching the ball. But again, bringing in someone likely means someone in the current RB room will leave for a better opportunity.

The caveat in this case might not be a bad one

Portal closes January 18th and opens up in May for 2 weeks. If Love stays, he could still leave in May if competition on the roster moves him down for example. Same instance BB could add some RB transfer portal help now or in May if he doesn't like what he sees on the roster. BB is very intelligent and knows how to work the system. Sort of like early signing period December 21st, than Patterson gone the next day, etc. Marketing and media stay more busy these days ;)
