I'm not versed enough in the legalities of NIL money to know one way or another whether that's true. But, I promise you, if there isn't verbage regarding Title IX yet, it's coming. The smart ADs and Athletic Departments will already be planning for it. Iowa is smart in their decision.
You should switch sedatives, high incidence of delirium with versed 🤣

This would be commendable to provide significantly more compensation for female athletes, but the collective doesn't have to do it for Title IX reasons.
The opportunity for one rich benefactor to corner the market in any given random women's sport (and certain men's ones) is now sitting right there.

Shad Khan might just LOVE women's soccer. Let's start competing with the Stanfords of the world and be the UCLA basketball of the John Wooden era (I mean they paid their players too, we can just do it above the table). A Women's Soccer dynasty is a few hundred thousand away.

Not sure what thread this belongs in but, a few years ago it was intimated that relations between the university and Shad were not good.
has that changed? Shad + NIL would appear to be a winning combination

Would Shad + NFL Franchise cause a problem?

Hey, I've written about that a couple years ago ;).

A big donor or G5 athletic department should invest a large portion of their funds in a non football/basketball/baseball sport. Find a way to dwarf the resources of even the top programs as a means of becoming a national title contender. It's been there for the taking since the late 90's.

Bingo. There is a reason that NIL took off, it was the path of least resistence to stem the PR landslide of finding ways to better compensate athletes. NIL provided that avenue without (a) taking money directly out of athletic department's pocketbooks, and (b) avoiding the Title IX scrutiny required by universities.
Some of the female athletes are way ahead of the men- take the LSU gymnast taking in 2.3M because she’s a social media nfluencer that can now profit from social media popularity

Perhaps … unless you consider the fact that the ONLY reason any of these kids is getting paid is that they’re playing for the school.

There’s the letter of the law … but there’s also the intent.
And the only reason these athletes are getting paid is because private individuals (or individuals in a corporation) care to pay them. No interest to pay them, no NIL. They can always be an influencer if they have that skillset.

Remember, we're not talking about equal NIL payouts (again... yet...), but rather equal opportunity when the university(ies) gts involved. That's all the Iowa post was about. The request was denied because the NIL group wanted the university's help to access season ticket holder information for only one group: football. The Reddit OP didn't like that response, and whined to Reddit user about it. Truthfully, if I'm an Iowa football season ticket holder, I'm glad that info was denied anyway. However, in the context of the AD's response, I would hope Whitman would say the same.

The examples of individuals receiving monetary gains from NIL (Dunne, specifically) are not run through the university (if I'm to understand her situation correctly). If a university is going to help an NIL group, the correct response is "only if it's for all teams", even if the university, the NIL group, or anybody doesn't like it. If they're even allowed to really be part of it in the first place.

That's how I understand all of this anyway.

It's a brave new world out there... It seems like it might be a good time for some law students to focus on this and be among the first to specialize in NIL law.

If you value the 247 class calculator, getting Elzy and Altmyer would put the Illini around a tenth of a point to Mizzou's number (at #35)

Getting Elzy and Card puts them smack dab in between Baylor and Missouri as the new #35

Insiders, after this class (and obviously dust settling in transfers out/in), how much closer will we be to a very solid 2 deep roster?
Felt like our lack of depth at key positions really hurt us last year
Wondering the same. Also all the "development" practice talk for the rest of the roster from BB, is that a good thing or a no thing?

Great thing, think of them almost as "extra spring practices." An extra week or two of development time is rarely bad.

Also the coaching staff get extra time to look at their current roster and figure out if they need to pursue even more transfer portal options.
