Not to turn this into a legal/political discussion but I would be fairly shocked if this NIL state legislation isn't challenged by next year and struck down.

I agree with this. I ain't no lawyer but using state legislation for NIL rules with high schoolers and only in-state schools seems rather fishy, bending the rules, whatever else analogy you can think of.

I’m not a lawyer either - but those rules don’t fly .

challenged by who? is Congress going to pass legislation? they've been dysfunctional for years. not holding my breath. as to the NCAA, surely you jest

This. Who is the body that cares about policing? And what power do they have? I think it's spun so far out of control at this point that it's more minor leagues than it is NCAA/College

Just my opinion, there will eventually be a policing org (NCAA?) before it becomes the wild, wild, wild west. Right now it's the wild west.

it will be challenged in court. someone will sue over it
an athlete in Missouri who picka an out of state school will do it.
lord knows there are 1000's of attys out there willing to take that case for the publicity

It's even worse than the minor leagues....

No one can stop a kid from taking money. The only potential issue is the NCAA taking away eligibility.

These laws are political theater.

1. Commit to Miznoz

2. Get paid

3. Decommit/transfer/whatever but keep the money

4. Commit to school of choice

Please let this happen…please please please football gods let this happen to Miznoz.

Think this could very easily happen … Get a huge amount of money in HS before stepping on campus then go to a blue blood and get even more money than you’d make actually going to Mizzou …

Challenged by an athlete. There will be a Missouri HS player that (a) is a top 100 talent and (b) doesn't want to go to Missouri. He'll commit to someone like TAMU, get a big NIL bag, but also take on the law in hopes of getting that money faster or get more funds from local businesses wanting to tap into his likeness.

I'd go into why this law has issues that make it ripe for a challenge, but we're already venturing away from the thread. If you want endless hope: if this legislation survives future challenges.......just imagine what it could provide to UI if Illinois passed something similar.

If this was enacted in Illinois, the families of top prospects would just move out of state for senior year at the expense of Alabama, Florida, etc.

FL EDGE Josaiah Knight is committing today, at halftime of his HS game.

Is committing at halftime a new or common thing in high school? Not bothered by it just seems weird to me doing it during the middle of a game that isn't an exhibition/offseason/no meaning game. (Or are they suppose to beat up on this team so he is playing only a quarter or two?)

Are you suggesting that this approach is a knight and day difference from how recruits usually announce?
