Parker Fleming (@statsowar) has an interesting theory on transfer (he said this on a couple of TwitterX mutuals podcast). His thesis is that kids that transfer up (for example going from an FCS school to a P5 school) will work out more often than those who transfer down (for example going from Alabama to a lesser P5 school). His idea is someone transfer from an eg Alabama did not gt playing time there for reasons such as being injury prone, not motivated enough, etc while a kid transferring up might be more hungry to prove himself at a higher level.

Any thoughts?

When is Miller time not actually Miller time?

I would rather take a kid that was under recruited or a late bloomer and balled out at a lower level.

Insiders and others are very high on Anderson. Spill the insider tea as to why the optimism despite the lack of experience.
When Anderson played in the state championship game for JCA against the second best team in the state, nobody could bring him down (306 yds). Imagine Feagin but with some experience catching the ball too. Feagin and Anderson will be a double-barrelled assault weapon.

going into this round of recruiting, I am really hoping that our hit rate increases on JUCO recruits (we've taken too many low/no impact guys). I'm encouraged thus far.

We have 85 kids on scholarship. But B1G rule limits teams to only taking 74 players on travel rosters to away games.

Our travel rosters this year included some walk-ons (ex: Paddock). So, there were a modest number of scholarship players who were NOT named to travel rosters for any games this year. I believe less than a dozen, but don’t have the exact count.

I am told that most (maybe all) of those students have been counseled by the coaches that they probably won’t see the field next season either, the implication being that they should consider the portal. Some may stay because they want the UIUC education, and the scholarship is guaranteed (I know of one kid specifically).

This is one difficult side of big time football.
