Looking beyond Altmyer, are they banking on Petty being THE guy? Looking longer-term, sounds disconcerting that we don’t have the resources to compete for top players, especially considering how important an elite qb is that n any program.
I think we do have the resources, just not the resources for a QB this year....because we just paid for a QB last year that is still on the roster. When Altmyer is gone, if we don't have a good starter, I'm sure we'll go out an get one.

Personal opinion or do you facts that you are basing this claim on?
Personal opinion, and I certainly hope to be wrong about the punching bags, but history would suggest that. I don't think the odds of a national championship are materially different whether we're in the power group or not, even making the playoff would probably be a once-in-thirty-years thing.

If we end up in ten years back with a 10-12 team conference (meaning UM, tOSU, Oregon, etc. have ascended into the P1), well that's life. If I can still go see the Illini play Iowa or Purdue or Wisconsin on a nice fall Saturday, it's not the worst thing.

But we already have coast-to-coast conferences with zero geographic or historical affiliation. Cal in the ACC? And as of yesterday you have a clear signal that no matter what a non-P2 team does (FSU), you are not worthy of a seat at the table. I don't see it as a big stretch at all to see a consolidation to a P1 as TV contracts expire in a few years.

He made some big plays but also seemed to commit the most stupid penalties of any player on the team. Just could not stay under control. If he thinks he will be better off somewhere else good for him. A lot of coaches would park him on the bench for the penalties. Brett kept rolling him out there.
And he could never shut his mouth after a play unless he was spitting at someone 😅🤣

Ahhhh….gotcha. That does make sense.

Led the secondary in lowest allowed completion percentage when targeted (54.5%), led the team in pass breakups, and led cornerbacks in defensive stops. Penalties were a problem. He's still a loss.
Only if we don't get someone as good or better from the portal to replace him, IMO

You’re on to something. I think football eventually goes to a nationwide P1 of 32 teams or fewer. All other sports (and the uninvited football schools) will revert to more regional conferences, including a reborn Pacific conference.

Would still be fun to be in a football conference with Minny, Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Nerdwestern, Maryland, Rutgers, and probably several of Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska and MSU. Maybe loop in Missouri, too. Require the 3-5 programs that depart to the Superleague to share a portion of their revenue with the remainder (ala Bowl revenue) if they want their other sports to remain in the conference. I’d be happy to keep pounding scUM, tOSU and Ped State during hoops season.

Been a long journey from Milan to Terre Haute.
I see he's from Springfield Illinois and played at Springfield High. Transferring from Rutgers. He had several kickoff returns for long yardage and td's this year. Interesting move to Indiana Sycamores.

Closer to home and opportunity to play. Local kid so I wish him the best

He had no TD's this year. Basically one big kick return against Wagner when Rutgers already had a considerable lead. He is versatile so hopefully he can contribute right away.
