247 says he enrolled at Grambling. Odd.

I think he transferred there from Arkansas State. Now he's transferring from Grambling.

He's an ESL grad, so big bonus there.

Colgate transfer Owen goss is a player I would bring in. Instate kid and safety is a position of need

Is he eligible? Colgate lists him as a senior. Some of the smaller Northeastern schools do not believe in playing beyond four years so they don't file redshirts. Their player profile pages are a mess. One says he played 6 games this year, another says 11. One says he has one career INT, another page says he had two in 2023.

Better than Tip too. No knock on Tip either

Rusk during the 2023 season caught 39 receptions for 512 yards and six touchdowns. He earned a 68.9 PFF grade, including a 76.8 PFF grade as a receiver and a 41.1 PFF grade as a run blocker.

I know the family as I live near them

he has an unused year as he never played in 2020 due to covid .
the lad can play -we might have a need for a guy like him for a year .

Yall want you TE involved in the passing game and catching balls across the middle like Iowa….then this is your guy
So, would you say our TE involvement in the passing game last year was limited more by the roster vs scheme?

This. As I said in a previous post I’ve seen Cole play in person. He will not be your blocking down tight end but he is a ++ route runner and if it’s thrown at him he catches it. Will quickly become one of Luke’s top targets. He is gonna be fun to watch.

Yet to be seen….but I know Bret loves TEs in the passing game and this guy is a true F type pass catching TE
Thx! It seemed like we had some successes going to our TEs last year (at least better than previous season) but didn't seem like we consistently looked for them.

Would love something akin to what Wisky did with TEs back in BBs day.

Do we seriously have people complaining about getting Rusk? The guy was one of the top TE in the transfer portal. Did you expect us to get Travis Kelcie or something???

Questioning whether the incoming transfer TE will be better than the TE leaving for the pros = complaining. No one is complaining for getting Rusk. It's a great get and he might be the best catching TE on Illinois' roster in since Cumberland. He also cannot block. I am not sure if he'll be better than Tip. Again, still happy to have Rusk.

LaPorta is about to set the highest pass blocking grade ever for an NFL rookie in the PFF era (2006-current). That's what makes Iowa's TEs special. They are great at catching and blocking. Tip wasn't great at both, but he was solid. Rusk looks like a gifted pass-catcher. Can be block? PFF says he can't against FCS competition. He might have 40 catches next year, but unless he makes one of the biggest blocking improvements in CFB then Illinois will have limited personnel versatility at TE.

Limited way of looking at it. As long as he can create mismatches in the middle of the field against an LB or safety, we should be good

I think Rusk is gonna be alright down blocking which is about all he will be asked to do….he will be able to flex out in the slot and outside and that’s why we got him.
