I'd have to see how Forster's year went but I was a big, big fan of him this summer. I thought he was comfortable above the rest of the Illinois RB targets, including Wyche. Rutgers dropping him is concerning, including the guy they flipped isn't well-regarded.

From the article:
The Illini got back involved in the fall and continued to track him as Rutgers' contact with Forster began to wane the last few months. Illinois secured his commitment a few days ago, and he is now in the Illini's class.

He ran for 629 yards and five touchdowns on 133 carries and he caught 10 passes for 148 yards. His lone 100-yard game of the season came in the finale when he ran for 153 yards and a score on 26 carries in a 20-14 loss to eventual champ Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic

As far as Feagin playing LB, he hasn't played LB since high school and that was small school football. If he started making the transition now, he might be comfortable by the end of next season.
I had thought about the possibility when I was watching the game against Penn State. Go back and look at the 4th quarter highlights. The game was out of hand and Altmyer threw an interception. I don't remember who intercepted it for Penn State, but I remember the guy being pretty big.
The Penn State player was returning it near the sideline and Feagin hit him hard. He hit him so hard that the ball popped out and went out of bounds. I remember thinking at the time that it was possibly the hardest hit I had seen by an Illini player the whole year.
If someone can find the play, I would love to see it again.

(1) I do wonder if adding two prep RBs means the staff won't add someone next year? Expectation of a defection?

(2) This should completely shut the door on adding a portal RB.

(3) What's the impetus for moving Feagin again? His athleticism isn't popping off the charts? He's been solid at RB. Linebacker suddenly looks a lot better than a couple weeks ago with Kreutz, Hood, Beerman, and a likely portal add. Would love to come back next season with Feagin, McCray, Laughery, and Valentine as dependable RB options.

Separate discussion - saw folks saying the prep class would be ~15 folks before the season and it ended up being 21. That's a big class in the post-portal world. Also emphasizes the point that this was one of the younger rosters in CFB. Does that mean we expect more roster players to leave?

There will always be players leaving. Look for guys not in the immediate 2 deep to enter.

I apologize because I know it's not really recruiting related. I rewatched the play I was referring to and the hard Feagin tackle was after a fumble by Altmyer.

I'm not sure about this, he was our top RB prospect before injury.

he has excellent top end speed, especially for a huge guy. but it takes him too long to get through the hole. and he doesn't have a lot of wiggle. for him to be the difference maker he was thought to be, he needs to hit the hole faster

Thank you! Much of this stems from a good hit by Feagin on a Penn State defender.

According to his X account, Sledge is in the portal. NT that transferred from Auburn.

Probably the most obvious portal entrant. He finished his third year, has a massive frame, was on a team that was needing snaps for someone outside of Edwards, and still didn't play. He probably needs to go to a lower MAC or CUSA team.

I wonder if the Sledge/Brooks experience is going to push Bielema further away from former blue chip preps / P4 players looking for playing time (outside of QB).

What exactly was the Brooks experience? Never got any clues beyond "consistency in practice" and "doing things the right way"

Has he really been here 3 years? I wouldn't have guessed it had been that long.
