Well I don't believe Illinois has ever led in this recruitment so.
Actually know a guy in this one that knows the kids pops... I was told from the beginning kid really wants to get away from home and spread his wings!!! Sometimes kids be like that

It's increasingly clearer that our NIL budget is just not that of a big time program; the breaking point for me would be if/when we start losing our 4 stars in the '26 class to the transfer portal.

The entire D-Line just getting up and leaving was a red flag from this off-season (though I do like what we did on offense and the secondary).

We just spent upwards of 25 million this year

That’s the risk for every program. Paying big money on prep recruits only to lose them in a year

Bret is strategically not spending for the 2027 recruiting class so that they can keep everyone they want that is currently on the roster. Only so much money, but this is on purpose. Good chance most of the top 50 Players for the 2027 team are on the 2026 team and he doesn’t want to lose them.

Some of these guys may end up being pretty good coaches.

No one knew about Bryant Haines or Mike shanahan three years ago.

They get by doing more with less.

Let’s see how it plays out.

Hauck (and staff) may end up being pretty good.
I wasn’t taking a shot at the new staffers. The post I was responding to suggested that might be an issue with the recruiting. I was simply pointing out that it’s not like we’ve landed a ton of offensive guys, and a large portion of the staff on that side of the ball have been here.

I’m fine being patient and seeing what happens.

There's money spent vs is it enough. It really doesn't matter how much. If it's short of filling out a top 6 team in the conference and it needs to be 35 million, ultimately and sadly, that's what matters.

It's accepted and understood that OSU, Michigan, Oregon and I'm guessing Penn State are always going to have enough to field two competitive teams. I'd assume that USC and maybe Nebraska are in the swimming in money mix. Can't judge any conference teams against those programs.

However, there's absolutely no reason that Indiana outspent us to put together two playoff rosters and a national championship roster. There's no reason why Iowa, Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota, etc should have more money.

We should be in the top 6 to 7 in recruiting rankings, in conference, every year. That's not asking a ton when we're already conceding that we can't compete with with more than 25% of the league.

So, it's either 25M isn't enough, our coaches aren't spending the money wisely or what we have spent money on isn't being coached up.

Again, these statements are made purely on the fact that we're looking at anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5 this upcoming year. Could we explode and surprise for another 9 win season? Absolutely! However, does the talent that we have make us 100% certain that we won't make a bowl? That's a possibility and this should never be a question.

Ultimately, if I spent $100K on a car, I can be driving something really nice and say hey....that's a $100K cat. If all of my neighbors spend $200K.....I didn't/couldn't keep up with the Joneses and I'd have to wonder why and the easy answer is that they either have better jobs or manage their money better.
