Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

That’s a great point. The Montana folks are going from recruiting 0-2 star players to 3-5 star talents. Different game with bigger egos, agents, handlers, etc. the rapid evolution of the past 4-5 years is already a major learning curve for those with decades of P4 experience let alone folks coming from a lower level.
It’s not like we are rolling on the offensive side either though.

Not good for Illinois. If it's going to be the Illini, why not announce in the SJO gym and hear all of the applause from students and other Illini fans? With the Pat McAfee Show announcement, I'm guessing it's Notre Dame. Or maybe Oregon.

There will be an addition soon….

Look good on Wagner or?

It seems like they have a fair shot looking over the whole recruitment but who knows? I know it would be a big addition to an OL that was completely rejuvenated with this past class. Have to keep it going and keep adding in the trenches.

Well I don't believe Illinois has ever led in this recruitment so.
Actually know a guy in this one that knows the kids pops... I was told from the beginning kid really wants to get away from home and spread his wings!!! Sometimes kids be like that

It's increasingly clearer that our NIL budget is just not that of a big time program; the breaking point for me would be if/when we start losing our 4 stars in the '26 class to the transfer portal.

The entire D-Line just getting up and leaving was a red flag from this off-season (though I do like what we did on offense and the secondary).

We just spent upwards of 25 million this year

That’s the risk for every program. Paying big money on prep recruits only to lose them in a year

Bret is strategically not spending for the 2027 recruiting class so that they can keep everyone they want that is currently on the roster. Only so much money, but this is on purpose. Good chance most of the top 50 Players for the 2027 team are on the 2026 team and he doesn’t want to lose them.
