Illinois Football Staff Thread

;) Well, we all know our special teams need help.

Ok, seriously, there may indeed be names Werner can't name. RB/TE paired?

I'm guessing the ST coach will also be Recruiting Coordinator. No idea who might be in play. There's a zero percent chance it will be Zook, obviously, but that would actually be awesome.

Carlos Polk could be a possible ST guy. Illinois native and coached with Lovie in TB.

I'm not going to lie, my post was at least 10% serious. He was an awful game day coach, but he was one heck of a recruiter.

Maybe. I looked him up and found this headline:

Carlos Polk Final Coach Named to Lovie Smith's Staff

Referencing TB, of course. Maybe he'll be the last named here, too? :)

How about Tim Brewster?

Played TE at Illinois
Coached in NFL
Coached at Minnesota
Is the recruiting coordinator and TE coach at Florida State currently

Not sure that he and Lovie have any connections though!

I'd like to steal at least one more from the same position at a Power Five program. Not just as a chest-beating thing, but it strikes me that that's ultimately where the best prepared people are, and that's the kind of money we have to spend.

This idea has been shut down already. Brewster isn't the best guy to work with, reportedly.

Looks like all we have left to fill is the RB coach, which is likely to be a very good recruiter.

Southern Illinois

When you compare things like;

Tomlin/Steelers vs O'Brien/Texans or Kubiak/Denver vs O'Brien/Texans or
being the ST coach for the Steelers vs being ST coach for Texans or look at his other coaching stops/results in his career, I don't see being fired by the Texans as a big deal at all. O'Brien wasn't going to fire himself and something had to change there. As far as I'm concerned this is just another very lucky opportunity that we have taken advantage of.

I'll gladly cede the no's 1 & 2 spots to OSU and Michigan for best coaching staffs in the B1G. But can we realistically say that the Illini have the 3rd or 4th best staff in the conference right now without so much as a practice snap? And even without knowing who our RB and S&C coaches are going to be? :noidea: Truly amazing!

Like the staff. I have always been thinking a younger guy with ties to recruit would be a good fit for RB coach. We will see. I wonder if S & C coach will be an afterthought?
