Illinois Football Staff Thread

Spencer definitely a home run hire. A top notch recruiter.

I figured Tim Spencer was a no-brainer to join Lovie's staff. His wife works at the same Chicago based company as I do. They raised their family in Illinois when Lovie was coaching the Bears. Great addition from a recruiting standpoint. Tim still holds several rushing records at Ohio State. Still cannot believe these coaches are now a part of the Illini program. Unreal.

I don't think that's a done deal one way or another.

If you had a great job in Florida with the wife working in Chicago, would you want to move closer?

:D

Spencer is not. He decided to stay in Tampa bay.

I believe FootballScoop is reporting that Tim is staying in TB.

I remember, back in the day, I used to follow this team where we had a saying, "It's not ideal." I can't even remember what team that was now. :D

First time in my almost 35 years as a diehard Illini fan that things are moving so fast in a positive direction in one of the revenue sports. Not only with the hiring of Lovie and strong push for assistants, but unprecedented commitment backed up by financial resources. This is totally "not Illinois."

Think how excited the fan base is... The players probably can't even concentrate in any academic scenario.

I cannot wait until April 15th, since that is when the Evaluation period begins. I am very interested, to see who this staff will targeting. Boy is it exciting to be an Illini fan these days.:D

My understanding from my following of the Adam Gase situation is that teams can block other teams from talking to coaches if the position in question is a lateral move.

For example
If the Cowboys wanted to hire Fangio as defensive coordinator, the Bears can block Dallas.

However, teams cannot block other teams for interviewing coordinators for coaching jobs, ie Adam Gase and Miami.

If Tampa Bay and Illinois were under the same organizational structure, you would be correct. Good thing Illinois isn't an NFL team.

Too bad to hear Spencer is staying in TB. Would have been another great addition to this already outstanding staff. I think we surprise a lot of people with how quickly this program turns around. We're not working with a totally depleted roster, and with Lovie's brand recognition I'd be shocked if we had a recruiting class outside of the top 3 in the Big Ten this coming year. Maybe even do so well as to have a top 10 recruiting class nationally? I'm tempted to say we can sneak into the top 5 nationally, but I don't want to jinx our good fortune...and I'm not superstitious, haha
