What about this font of illini or Illinois. Blue with white outline on orange helmet?

Tried to include image but it’s the font on bball jerseys from Wisconsin game last night

Random football fan flips through channels, winds up on a UIUC game where the script Illinois is on the jerseys. They're not gonna be able to read that.

Block letters ILLINI or ILLINOIS work. Do they dazzle? No, but they don't smell like try-hard.
I think this is an especially groundless concern in our current era, when teams will show up in like, full camo uniforms on a whim.

But even if it wasn't...who cares about random football fan?

Obviously everyone has a different opinion but I think the Ill script looks cartoonish. It reminds me of porky the pig from the old looney toon cartoons.

Has the Illinois Pork Producers been covertly pushing Script Illinois propaganda this whole time for this very reason? Have they even infiltrated this board??

Hard to tell what that even means. We've taken a big step away from monochrome looks since Bielema started (and I suppose don't *technically* do it at all since we've stopped rotating helmets). In 2022 we matched jerseys and pants just three times, all on the road: at Wisconsin, at Nebraska, at Michigan.

Is this referring to thicker, more traditional numbers that aren't in the "1LL1NO1S" font, and arching shoulder stripes? Like both of those elements (more stripes everywhere, please, as long as they match!). I believe that would be a first for us ever having the stripes go over the shoulder, we've traditionally had them going around the arm on the edge:

Here's what you get when you take the Patriots' Color Rush top and put it with pants of a different color:

Just so I get it. Do you think random basketball fans flip through the channels and when they get to our games wearing the white throwback jerseys they're too flummoxed to understand it's us? Do you think that's what happens when Michigan State, Syracuse, Texas, Purdue, Ohio State, et al. wear their throwbacks? (Seriously, the number of schools that utilize script font off and on is wild, look it up.) Is this a football thing because football fans are too thick-headed? Like, I understand most people aren't writing cursive in their daily lives anymore, but I don't think it's that hard to understand and, if anything, I think the fact that numerous basketball teams utilize script font shows that.

While I love the script font and think our white basketball throwbacks are by far the best jerseys we got, I prefer a football jersey without writing across the front. Just give me numbers on the jersey. Use the script font for the helmet and end zone.

Yeah, I mean this is a completely invented problem. There's nobody stumblebumming their way through televised sports and arriving on a game like they are an alien landing on earth. You're choosing from a guide screen that tells which game it is, and if you miss that, there is a scorebug at the bottom of the screen.

(also in agreement that the front of a football jersey is a place for numbers, not letters)

I am not against this idea, curious what it may look like.

For home, I like the O-B-O look but would like O-O-W or O-O-B as alternates but not all orange or all blue, yes I went to Illinois during the Zook years. For away, O-W-O, O-W-B, O-W-W, or all white (if done right) would be good with me. Let's see how the jersey/pants striping and helmet logos look.

@wILL-INI, are you still around? Could you sketch something up?

This tweet can mean a lot of things right now.

1. Bielema is definitely influenced by his former team (Patriots) in making these
2. I am pretty sure this means the jerseys will have the block numbers (👍) and the shoulder stripes.
3. Conservative guess: replace the red in this jerseys with orange in a photoshop app, you get a reasonable facsimile what this look like
4. Medium guess: there will be all orange version of this. Bielema in a couple of press conference mention how much he likes orange.
5. Crazy guess: silver helmets and silver elsewhere on the jersey. Silver was one of the school's original colors in 1879. Also fits into the entire Patriots thing.
6. On place there might be cursive Illini lettering will be is where the "Patriots" lettering is on this one.
7. The helmets will be the "mystery box" of the jerseys. Your guess on the helmet logo is good as one anyone's. However, don't expect a Chief Illiniwek in a Pat the Patriot pose on the helmets anytime soon lol.

Then again, I am just a guy on a laptop.
