Semantics I suppose. What you don’t want is what Vanderbilt is looking at after day 1. They are going to be right around the cut line and then the pressure and urgency starts to build. Two more rounds like they just played and they will be regional champs. Seems great to me!
Vanderbilt had a rough day 1. Florida was meh too.

Looks like the O&B cream is rising to the top after day 1.
Can Georgia and MSU back up their hot first day? Did Noh back up his 60 after last Thursday at the AT&T? Tough to do.

Georgia probably their best day of the year (golf-wise, of course), it'd be hard to repeat that performance. I see UGA and MSU looking to ensure they make the top 5, avoiding big risks if they have 2-3 guys not playing as well as they did in Round 1. Texas is our biggest threat, and Florida could either join or be in big trouble depending on how Tuesday goes.

Wasn't this previously a 4-round regional? Going to 3 rounds definitely gives teams like Sparty a better shot of sneaking into the finals.

That is a solid start to the regional. The 4 seniors all showed their game and carried us. Basard with a bogey free 67 on the day in a round where he parred all three par 5s.

We are right where we need to be. This all about survive and advance to Nationals. Sure you want to win everything but really it doesn't matter as long as your in the top 5. That being said, I have faith that our depth will not only keep us in here but push us onward. Mich st is kicking above their weight for sure and little rock also. Not that those teams will necessarily fall, all good teams here in this regional. Would be shocked if Florida doesn't push up the leaderboard today. Also one of the deepest teams in the field and I think a legit national contender.

I don't believe it's ever been 4 rounds -- at least as long as I've been following.

if i read the Kuhl issue correctly, the club could have made a local rule and allowed players to fix aeration marks but did not.
often the best clubs have equipment that slit the greens and fill with a fine sand. when they do it that way, the result is very
playable within a day or two.

Who is the 4th senior? ADC, Besard and TK are 5th year guys, Hunt is a Jr and Buchanon is a Soph. But I get your point as the veterans played solid yesterday. Another double digit under par round will set us up nicely for tomorrow.

Is there any benefit to where you finish within the top 5? Like if you win the regional, does that team get some sort of ranking advantage?

From what I recall, there isn't, but just want to make sure.

Georgia coming out hot again.
Yes they are. Vey impressive. On the individual leaderboard 4 of the first 5 names are UGA players. Florida struggling is definitely a surprise. 10 off the cut line at this point is not insignificant.

In other fun news, NIU made the regional for the second time ever and is currently above the cut line and ahead of #2 UNC. Good for them!

4? Hunt is only a junior

Playing good golf. Just a few holes by every player preventing us from having those massive almost flawless rounds. Like hunts double bogey on a not so difficult par 5.

don't know why I said that 4, only 3 seniors.

In position with a good finish here to put a good amount of distance between us and 6th which is currently a 9 stroke gap. Lets finish strong
today and take the pressure off tomorrow.

Hunt with a triple and looks to be the non-counter, time for AdC to show his mettle and get into red numbers.

Hunt showed up big with that eagle. Tough double for besard he was on fire. This course has tons of water I’m guessing I’ve seen a lot of triple and quad bogies

What a great addition to the team Matthis was. Don't think Illini would have been as successful this year without him. My advice: more Belgians, Coach Small.

Go Illini and NIU!

Solid rounds by everyone. No one over par. Win and move on...

While we wait for third round: Coach Small obviously knows the portal. College golf portal? It exists. Surely you don't think it exists, Shirley. I think he's gotta recruit an experienced steady horse to help lead the team and add depth much like Matthis.

Hope Jerry recovers. Got a lot of talent on the team and the new recruits.
