The stupidest of rules are in the game I love the most. I am definitely pulling this rule out the next time they aerate the greens at my course and I have big money on the line.
Yep already thought of that one... My main course in Decatur aerated today.. Imagine I can find someone to piss off this weekend😂😂

Not blaming Aerategate (how clever of me!) on anyone, certainly not Tommy. He made a mistake, according to the rules. I agree. Aeration is necessary for health of greens, but rotten for putting even at my nine-hole muni where the stakes are only a Coke or a brewski.

Tommy did the only honorable thing he could do by ratting himself out.

The big question is why a course would aerate greens so close to a major event like a U.S. Open local qualifier. Couldn't it have waited until after?

Just wondering.

Just my opinion but....I just have this very biased hope that....the golf movers that be...respect both the score of 62 and the players respect for the rules results in an exemption into the tournament...it would be nothing but great press for the rule of golf and a happy ending for all...
Tommy shows how Small coaches them up...

We need a illinoisloyalty outing there this summer. I'm sure the Atkins family would let us all on for free.
Sounds great! But only if there's a cottage cheese make-your-own buffet with all the fixings. Sign me up with or without cottage cheese of which I'm suddenly nauseated.

Did I hear that right during Golf Channel regional announcement show? Yes, I did. The talking head host pronounced Illini as Ill-in-nee. She caught herself next mention, started to say Illinnee but switched to safer Illinoy. Surprised she didn't pronounce it Illinoise. Inexcusable.

Sorry, cruel of me. The young pleasant woman who does a great job royally screwed up pronunciation of Illini! I think she learned. And I learned not to be a big jerk. The old dog learns new tricks.

Well done to Kuhl. Love the honesty and integrity.

Will admit to being surprised he thought he could repair punch marks. There would be literally hundreds in his line alone on every hole. I am betting he just repaired one that was right at his mark or barely in front. In matches we always do a local rule that you don't have to putt out of a hole if the greens are punched so you can at least have a chance to get the ball rolling for a start.

Also, I've caddied for these events and I will say that punching your greens before a US open qualifier is inexcusable. Often courses schedule to aerate the day after these. I'm from Springfield and Illini Country Club is a great course but that is not good form at all by the club.

I know it's early, but how many advance from the regional stage?
5 advance from each of the six Regionals.

And Eagle Eye looks to be playing rather "easy" so far.......as the Illini approach the half-way point. Tied for 2nd at -5.

Looking like a sub-par first day for the Illini.
It was for the most part until these last few holes. Illinois and Florida are doing well on them and catching up. Hard to judge golf rounds until the end cause the teams always start at different points. But ADDC and matthis not birding 14 and Jackson had a rough day for sure. Also hunts bogey on 10. I feel like illinois played very mediocre and are still going to probably be 3rd after today. Not great but could be worse.

I would say a great opening round. Georgia had one of those days that can happen in golf. Looks like they will be around 8 shots clear of the cut line after day 1. Can’t expect any better than that.

It wasn’t great. A great day 1 would have illinois in first. They’re the best team here. It was above average for them. They might even be down to MSU who we beat by 38 strokes at the big tens and 35 at the illini invite. MSU has some talent and are on fire today for sure though.

Semantics I suppose. What you don’t want is what Vanderbilt is looking at after day 1. They are going to be right around the cut line and then the pressure and urgency starts to build. Two more rounds like they just played and they will be regional champs. Seems great to me!
