In his defense Illinois played really well on 15-18 in round 2. Round one they struggled a lot but it seems like 15/16/18 had really hard configurations/weather yesterday to deal with and every team struggled on them a lot we did better but it was hard to know until the 3-4 teams around us played them since we were ahead of them. 17 was one hole yesterday we did play really well on compared to day 1.How is that a choke when the team comes back from so many strokes down and wins against such a strong field? Just wondering.
I don't think so. Every single team was torn up for the most part on holes 15-18 even the teams that played those holes way before Illinois did and the teams that started on hole 10. I think Illinois just played those holes incredibly well.I think the field choked against the Illini. Very different thing.
Yes, they should change the font. Every time I see it I read it as Cnaumps or something. It detracts from the message.great win for the program !
on a tangentially related note , I’m not a fan of the font they used for the word “champs” and why they are connecting some letters together
I posted a similar screenshot from the middle of round 3 on Twitter. It seems like we feasted on par 4s and 5s but struggled on par 3s. Someone with more knowledge about the program right now - is that expected for our current set of guys?

Yes it's ready difficulty and length to play and host college level players. The 'black" tees or the orange tees which is what Atkins calls their pro level tees make the course I think around 7500 yards. The blue tees are around 6800 yards. I assume we could host 15 college level programs. CU can host a football team that has like 70 guys. 1 college team only has probably 10-12 people if you add up the players and coaches and staff. We host state level tournaments here too.Atkins looks great. Hope to play it soon.
Just wondering: is the course up to hosting a regional design-wise, difficulty-wise? Can Champaign area handle teams, visitors accommodations-wise? Don't know. I suppose the airport could handle traffic? Illinois weather in spring is always a concern, too.
It would be great if Illini, women and men, could play close to home like the Arizonas and Oklahomas seem to do all the time.
Closest to home Illini men played was at Rich Harvest Farms NCAA championship a few years ago.
Thanks
Yea buchanan had a quad bogey and besard had a triple. So we weren't as bad as the numbers just had a few really bad holes. But they are known to struggle on par 3s.You can actually go player by player for these categories as well. Buchanan and Besard were both +8 on par 3s, so that's the majority of our +20 there.
Golfstat came out yesterday. Illini #6. I think Golfstat revises rankings once a week. Golfweek/Sagarin had Illini #11 on Monday, I think, pre-win.Anyone know when the new rankings come out
so in terms of the rankings, which again is very hard to do in team golf, historically golfweek/sagarin is the one that most look at. Now golfstat rankings have gained steam due to the fact they are the scoring system and people who follow along see their numbers next to the teams. Having Illinois 6 is hard to argue with but one can. I think we leap just ahead of that in the golfweek, maybe 4th. I orginally thought this win should place us at the top but teams like Vanderbilt/standford/auburn etc have really quality records. the issue with golfstat is it relies on its own adjusted scoring average more than I feel it should in team golf. Individual, yes that is a great metric, but in team golf when the going gets tough the team that wins is often playing different than 5 individuals trying to go low. golfweek is broader in their rankings and less mathy, though math is involved. just my two cents on that. they are both actually quite good. Illinois has 4 wins now and this last won is very marquee, stack that against just about anybody in the nation.Golfstat came out yesterday. Illini #6. I think Golfstat revises rankings once a week.
