There's a real chance 15 of the top 16 teams make the cut of 15 (13 seed Tennessee didn't make the championship at all), which would be an absurdly good field. Currently all 15 are in at least a tie for the cut, though Alabama has really tailed off today and has about 4 holes to right the ship before falling below the cut line.Yeah, the unfortunate news is that it appears we're going to see ~8 of the top 11 teams qualifying for Match Play. In that field, anyone can defeat anyone.
Maybe we'll get lucky and face SF or Colorado in round 1 on Tuesday.
There are two cuts - first to 15, then to 8.For those learning…if the top 15 teams advance to match play, does it matter much if you finish 1st or 15th in stroke play? Ie. If the number one team in the country coming into the tournament finishes 15th, do you risk being paired against them in the first round of match play by finishing first?
Top 15 today will be reduced to Top 8 end-of-day Monday. For those learning…if the top 15 teams advance to match play, does it matter much if you finish 1st or 15th in stroke play? Ie. Illinois with a 19 stroke advantage over the 9th place team with 1 round left to play, so making final 8/match play is a given. Tomorrow is all about seeding.Top 15 today will be reduced to Top 8 end-of-day Monday.
Then match play begins on Tuesday, with #1 vs #8; #2 vs #7; #3 vs #6; #4 vs #5.....................and these 8 team rankings are based upon how you finish in stroke play.
I didn't know about the direct entry to PGA tour. How many get that? That's pretty sweet, says everyone but the coach who doesn't want to lose that guy.Only the top 8 teams in stroke play qualify for the match play playoffs starting on Tuesday. Tomorrow, the individual players championship
is determined, and the top finishers will get direct entry to the PGA tour.
Trust me, the vast majority of players prefer the crack of dawn tee times as opposed to starting at 1 pm with temps nearing 100 degrees. Time does not matter to those kids competing for a national title...but temps do.Yes, I'm sure the guys will be happy to avoid the 6:10 start tomorrow. That comes crazy early
Maybe. But I live in Palm Springs, which averages 3 degrees hotter than Phoenix and I would still rather play at 1:00. I did it today and yesterday. Each man's biorhythms are his own I guess.Trust me, the vast majority of players prefer the crack of dawn tee times as opposed to starting at 1 pm with temps nearing 100 degrees.
