I am not waiting for this kid. And may not support him even if he decides on UI.

Bye, bye kid. All the best.

Come on, man.

Stop drinking the Bombay.

He's blown up and gotten offers from all the schools he is really considering all in the last 4-6 months or less. We changed coaching staff. He has the right to go where ever the hell he wants.

But to say you wouldn't support him if he came here? He has given no indication that he was a sure fire Illini commit, no hat tricks(yet) or anything funny. Did he steal your girlfriend or something?

He's a lefty who NEVER goes to the right :)
That can be worked on. It's difficult, but that sounds like an Underwood mantra. You can hear him bark "GREATNESS IS HARD" during a videotaped workout.

I don't fault Smith at all for how he's going about his recruitment. He has every right to enjoy it and get the celeb treatment at MSU and UK. But if we've got Hardy here itching to sign on the dotted line, then we have got to offer him. Especially since he's got that grudge against our opponents.

Yeah, it shows up on his scouting reports, too. It's not a deal-breaker, imo.

Hey, my inner sports meatball loves hearing that as much as the next guy, but let's not make that a key part of the case for Amauri Hardy.

Oh and another thing. I have no idea if we get him, but that stuff you said about Tilmon being our lead recruiter with Smith... I call it baloney.

I don't think Tilmon is the type of kid (status wise) that makes others follow him persay...he strikes me as more a follower than a leader? Could be wrong on this one, don't think so!:chief:

All I want to see is for an Illini to make sombody else in the Big Ten look like Illinois. Somebody to just randomly go off for 28 points and 8 rebounds after previously averaging 6ppg. Is that too much to ask!? :D

Well yea...Groce didn't go to another B1G school, he went to Akron, they don't play in this league...;)

Where to begin . . .
And, in between those two events, we've had enough nut punches to last a lifetime.

I think you mean those of us who have experienced the events you mentioned will have black and blue nuts for the rest of our lifetimes. ;)

I think Jordan Goodwin would agree with you on this.

First Mizzu and SLU have always recruited the area and at times have had better coaching staff then in recent years so nothing new here.

second the mizzu coach has always recruited other places then STL so nothing new here. is CM better then they have had lately as a recruiter sure but still nothing has really changed

Cuonzo and Ford are significant upgrades with respect to recruiting from their previous staffs. If you consider their addition "nothing has really changed" and that the previous Mizzou staff (Anderson) was bringing in recruits like Porter Jr. and Tilmon or the SLU previous staff was bringing in Gordon and Goodwin, then I can't help your knowledge of recruiting.

third who impacted the illini most from the area ???? Hill best play sure impact on the illini hard to say he had the best no NCAAs Arch maybe Keen not sure who would been the biggest impact from the area

If you are implying that recruits from the ESL and St. Louis area have no impact or will have no impact so the area does not matter (recruiting-wise), I don't know what to say. Hill, Arch, and Keene had an impact at UI, some (i.e., Arch) played on better teams than others (i.e., Hill). And many others who were recruited at UI but ended up elsewhere had an impact at their schools. Should we stop recruiting Chicago because no impact player ended up at Illinois the last 12 years? It's a silly argument.

forth yeah I agree doesn't matter who is the coach at Mizzu, SLU or even timbuk too we wil lstill go after kids there

Of course it matters, it has an impact on UI as far as recruiting. Just intensifies the need to counter and win our fair of recruiting battles against them. Just because I have confidence in how our staff is shaping up, it does not mean that we should downplay what is happening recruiting-wise at Mizzou.

fifth I think we will recruit just fine as well once we get a full staff and really get to it

I strongly believe so too, yet, I would not downplay Cuonzo at Mizzou as "nothing has changed."

finally I am happy with our new coach, will we win whos knows time will tell, but I feel we are better off today then we were 3 weeks ago with or without JT and Pickett.

Depends on who we actually bring in the recruiting class, we are still recruiting and we are not done. But we are not exactly jumping from joy that Tilmon de-committed, neither is it very believable to claim "we did not want him anyway." Today, we are definitely not better off. Tomorrow? Maybe yes, may not, it has not happened yet.

I stand corrected. Who is the "sanctioning body" for that competition? Is that BOA? I don't know as much about MB in that part of the country. I do know that there are at least four organizations that claim a Pennsylvania state high school marching band championship, including a couple that have top and second level (I'm not talking band size) championships. Everybody gets a trophy! :D

No specific sanctioning body though it largely follows BOA scoring and expectations. It is the Illinois state championships, or as some call it, the "Has Marian completed enough of their show to win or not?" competition. Competitive marching band in Illinois is Marian Catholic and then everybody else.

Oh my God, this recruiting thread is brutal to read. Hardly any recruiting news at all. Is this staff going to be much more covert in letting info out than the last one was? Or is there just no news?

Hahahaha, I couldn't have said it better myself. A perfect analysis of the Illinois marching band situation.

Things are being kept pretty tightly under wraps. I'm probing an acquaintance regarding Smith, but there isn't much coming out. I'm more curious about Kiir or any other bigs than Smith at the moment, tbh. It's the bigger (lol) need by far.

Orange and Blue!

Hmmm, no emoticon for that....probably for the best.

I am still amazed that Marian Catholic made a marching show out of Fire Water Paper, a large-scale full orchestral oratorio about the freaking Vietnam War.

It's an amazing piece, btw
