Mark Smith got taken out of the role he was sold on
i think I've read all your posts about this and i'm still confused on many levels...
1. you seem to know with a large amount of certainty what was "sold" to him. I wholeheartedly agree with other posters' suggestions on premium board membership. Virtually nobody on these boards has any idea what was sold to him and how it fits with what actually happened.
2. BUT let's assume you do know what conversations took place. Then you admit yourself that he was given the opportunity that he was sold. He just got "taken out of the role he was sold on" later. So...he had a legit chance. he just wasn't able to capitalize. That's life, it happens.
3. BUT, let's suggest that he was taken out of the role too soon. But that doesn't jive with the facts that we have. MS averaged 19.1 minutes per game last season. The only players to have significantly more were TF (26.3), LB (25.5), and MF (25). After those three, there's a (perhaps not coincidental) tight grouping of guards Alstork (22.6), TJL (21.4), AJ (20.1), and MS (19.1). Combine this with the fact that MS is the only freshman in that group, I think he got essentially the "experience-adjusted" minutes he deserved given the production he showed on court. Oh, and here's another factoid, MS actually averaged slightly more MPG than Kipper.
Yeah, you might argue minutes does not equal the type of role he expected, but, at worst case, to me that indicates that nobody expected TF to blow up like he did. But that isn't BU misleading MS. That's everyone's inability to predict the future. That's called life. And I would guess BU is saying that to future recruits and truly not misleading them.
