If Ramey doesn’t commit before this weekends visit from Feliz he will be out of luck.
If he wants to be an ILLINI the time is now.
From a class balance stand point I would be very happy with Feliz.
Yes sir. Balance is definitely needed at this point. As of right now, only Jordan's spot will be open for 2019, assuming the other open spots are not filled with grad transfers.

So far, with the exception of THT I think, we haven’t heard so much crazy puffery about getting players and then finishing second. I’m really hoping that the frequency with which that occurred was a Groce phenomenon that came to an end with Underwood, and the staff and those surrounding the staff will no longer pump out rumors about getting people unless it’s a done deal- not subject to fluid recruiting. Maybe I’m alone, but the false information, false confidence and nutpunches are really not an enjoyable part of following recruiting news. Much rather sit in relative silence - knowing only about real news, e.g. coaches visits, official visits, offers, etc. - until there’s good information about a commitment.

Hear, hear :thumb:

There's always going to be competition for playing time and guys transferring because of lack of it. So, bring on Williams, Griffin, Jordan, and Jones and let them compete. I don't think Griffin is going anywhere. From what I have read he's not the kind of kid who will shy away from competition.
Give me Ramey over Feliz all day. He's the #1 prospect in MO and a top forty player. Ayo, Fraz, and Ramey pushing each other in practice will only help their development. Fraz, certainly won't shy away he took on the field last year and won.

So you figure we're going to find a 5th year big who will make it 2 schollies in 2019, and then Feliz would make it 2 schollies in 2020. And then you look at our grab bag of young project bigs in Ebo, Matic, Giorgi and Kane and you figure there is probably room for a future Creaning in there if we want to add somebody to those two classes down the line.

That makes a certain amount of sense. I've come around on the logic of a 2018 Juco. I'd still prefer Austin Trice to Feliz though, with a PG as the 5th year guy. I'd also Crean Matic for Hinson right now. Given that all reports were that he was already gone, maybe that's still on the cards, who knows.

i used to play against fairfield in the early nineties. But if i remember their best player's name it was Gwantley or something similiar. I graduated h.s the same year I joined orange krush.. 93.
Kylie Gwaltney! He was a stud for a small school player. Went on, I believe to set several records at Rose-Hulman (smart kid, too). He was a couple years after Foster. Foster was as good a scorer, but Gwaltney at 6'4" and with PG skills was the better all-around player. My wife was a teacher at Fairfield at the time, so saw many games those five years and many good players from Fairfield and Flora during that time frame.

Was perusing the latest Rivals '18 rankings and a few things I noticed:

- Duke has the Top 3 players overall committed and four of the Top 8. That's ridiculous.
- I didn't realized Blake Hinson is ranked #96 on Rivals.
- Man, there's very few uncommitted players left in the Top 100, and we're in on two of them.
- Holy shnikeys I didn't realize Northwestern has two '18 recruits ranked around #60 (one at 58 and one at 63), plus another at #133. Seriously, Northwestern? Nothwestern? Collins is doing some 'cruitin' over there and if he sticks around they'll be good again in the couple years, even tourney worthy.
- Purdue has a commit named "Trevion". It's going to be interesting and confusing for the announcers when we play them and Tevian and Trevion are on the floor together. :)

I would agree with all of that. I hope Damonte has the ball in his hands a lot more next year. He is the third ball handler as of now and I don't remember him bringing it up a whole lot last year. If he is handling the ball, then that lessens the need for Feliz, even though I feel like Feliz will commit this weekend. I like Hinson, but 6 freshmen on the roster is a lot. If Matic is gone, now that is another story. 2 scholarships for 19' (Whitney, Liddell, Okoro) and 2 for 20' (Miller, Steward) would suffice.

Is there any source besides Loren Tate reporting a Ramey visit?

It was hinted at on the Werner show that they hope to have him in this week, but they were not stating it as fact.

We're likely going to have 3 guards with Kipper at the 4 sometimes unless we get a 5th year post. Frazier and Ayo are two of them, and then it's a competition for the 3rd guard spot between Williams, Jones, Griffin, and Jordan. Some of them could shift around a bit but if we get Felix then those spots become even more defined. If we get a 5th year post, that's going to give Kipper more time at the 3 too making it more difficult to get playing time on the wing. This is trolling only if you believe that we're going to truly play all of Williams, Jones, Griffin, and Jordan.
You do realize that Jordan is a senior next year, so that will alleviate the logjam somewhat. But with three spots and Ayo, Trent, Damonte, Jordan, Jones, Griffin and one other, that would be seven guys for three spots. This year we had six guys for three spots getting plenty of PT. And, depending on skill level, Jones and Griffin could be big enough to fit a four and get time there. Kipper is the only four we really have, with Ebo, Georgi and Kane all being 5s.If it plays out that way, you have 8 guys for 4 spots in a way. I don't think this will scare Griffin off. I am sure he was explained the vision Underwood has and how it would work and who else the coach was after in this class. We have always heard about the team going 10 deep, but Underwood was first to do it. We had 10 guys plays quite a bit this past year, with the pressure defense causing a need for fresh bodies.

Hell.....growing up not having internet at home, I'd hear about the recruiting classes through the various preseason magazines. Street and Smith, Lindy's, etc. Part of me think it's better off that way.

I think Griffin may be way better than anyone on here is giving him credit for. No inside info, just from reading about his accomplishments in tourneys.

Check the tape:

Then compare it to this:

Then check the offer lists. Then look at the rankings.

The hype differential is appropriate.

Not only has no source been provided - but I checked Loren's podcast and there was no mention in it either. Where the OP decided to "hear" that or "see" that is lost. Then when pressed on it - they disappeared :tsk: something tells me that we were being trolled with that comment.

Go Illini :chief:

It was during the 4-3-2018 "Sportstalk" w/Scott Beatty at the 34:33 remaining mark.

Target for pg in two years definitely Miller. Juco would be gone and position avail. Also true if Ramey or Ayo go NBA after two years. Have no idea if that is factor in the recruitment or even a realistic possibility.

Tate definately said Ramey is visiting Thursday. Either way, the Illini should land either Ramey or Feliz by Monday. Another point Loren made was that Alan Griffin has to be better than a 3 star if he is the best player in NY State.

I've read that it's actually an in home but tifwiw.

Where was this said?

Moses Brown is #21 in the country, 5 stars, committed to UCLA, and listed as #1 in NYS by 247. There’s another four star guy in the top 100 (Barton). 247 doesn’t have griffin in top 7. I know people said there’s a rerank coming- but who has him higher than 5 star Moses Brown?

I am guessing (not an insider) that Dan would disagree. Despite the nutpunches of the Groce era, Loyalty was hopping! I have to admit, that I have backed off my commitment to players until they sign the line that is dotted, since Cliffmas (honestly, Snyder hurt even more). But the excitement was great.

Depends on what you mean by 10 deep. Underwood had 8 players get 10+ mpg in 2016, and 9 in the previous year, which is pretty good but there aren't really 10 guys in the rotation. This year we actually had 10 players getting 10+ but I don't think that wasn't because we were so deep, but because we had to switch out players because of their inconsistency and foul trouble. Either way, I wasn't saying that he would be scared off but that I wouldn't be surprised if he would reconsider if he felt that he rushed the decision and after we landed a higher rated recruit from the same position. It happens all the time and I wouldn't judge him if he did. It's not I'm wanting him to leave. I love being in the position of guys competing for certain spots, but they won't all be in the rotation regardless of what the coaching staff tells them in the recruiting process. Georgi's perspective on playing time was refreshing, and if any of the guards share the same mentality, this would all work out without as much turnover in the future.
