I think Damonte will be a pretty good Illini player, but man, some of you fans need to stop with the excuses. He dropped because of his production, consistency, and because he's a combo guard, and not the combo guard that is equally as effective at the point and the 2. He would have dropped even if he would have somehow landed at a blue blood.

The rankings are flawed for guys that don't get exposure, but guys on elite AAU teams have no excuse.

Yeah I don't understand this at all. How does a fairly athletic and long 6'5"-6'6" class 4a first team all state player averaging 24ppg out of a fairly large market not get more love?

I think the biggest thing is that he doesn't play for a highly visible AAU team like STL Eagles or Mac Irvin Fire. It's out of sight, out of mind for most of these evaluators.

Well, so much for me being excited about him coming here

I agree with Newman: Da'Monte's drop is about the fact that it obviously hasn't clicked for him yet. Same as DJW and Charles Matthews last year who experienced similar slides. It's hard to explain why the light goes on earlier for some kids than others, but it is what it is. Scouts saw Da'Monte's special physical tools last summer and projected based on that, but it's impossible to know how a kid's confidence and competitiveness will develop. I'm still extremely glad we have him on board. If it comes together for him, Da'Monte could be an NBA pick - length, frame, athleticism, basic skills are there (i.e. shot isn't broken, has a decent handle). Not saying he will, but he's one of the only guys in the program with the right toolbox.

NBAPA Top 100 Camp in a week should tell us more about DMW. This camp is a good one. Evans and JCL both used the camp to blow up. OTOH, Matthews got downgraded because the camp thought he needed to improve his jumper.

Da'Monte has fallen out of Scout's top 100 as well. Still listed as a 4 star recruit, though.

So do we rip scout's analyst for not knowing the top 100 greatness of those unranked in bold?
