Took about 17 seconds in and when he points at the camera after the dunk, I thought, "well he's not going to Illinois."

I'm normally not the negative guy who rules players out on my gut, but that was my first thought.

Plenty of time to see how it will play out.

He always seemed to know where the camera was, that's for sure. :)

Hopefully he doesn't have a Mike Shaw poster on his wall, and will continue to get better.

Whitney might be the best prospect in Illinois regardless of class. He had a great Freshman season (albeit against mediocre competition). It'll be interesting to see how he develops in the coming years. Sometimes kids that develop early seem to plateau by the time they become upperclassmen. Ben Coupet is a recent example.

There's been a lot of talk about whether he will transfer to one of the bigger HS programs like Simeon or Morgan Park. I believe he's playing with the Fire U16 team this summer with Kezo Brown and Ayo Dosunmu.

Top 10 recruiting battles for 2017 basketball prospects
Eric Bossi | National Analyst

Jeremiah Tilmon Center
The battle: Illinois vs. the bluebloods.

Bossi’s take: We hesitate to ever call a prospect a must-get for any program, but when it comes to the Illini and Tilmon, it gets pretty close to that level. Tilmon is from Illinois, the Illini have held a strong position for a while and he’s probably most needed by the Illini on the floor. Jon Groce and his staff are looking to get things headed in the right direction and beating out programs like Kansas, Michigan State and North Carolina for Tilmon would be a huge step.

You would think Bossi would know it is John not Jon

9th Grader Kahlil Whitney Looking To Be Chicago’s Next Breakout Star!
Published on May 23rd, 2016 by Scott Comeau | 1,924 views

Chicago has produced a ton of talented players in the past. Scouts, coaches, fans and more are always looking for the Next Big Thing. 6’6 9th grader (age 14 during freshman season) Kahlil Whitney wants to be THAT guy. Playing at Solorio Academy, a relatively new, small public high school with no basketball tradition on the city’s Southwest Side, Whitney might’ve slipped under some peoples’ radar. Ballislife was there from the start. In Whitney’s first career Chicago high school game, he scored 35 points in the first half (vs Morgan Park Academy).

Let's just point out this is a different high school from the traditional Morgan Park High School powerhouse. This is a small private school that's along the lines of Latin, U of C Lab School, Francis Parker, etc. Albeit 35 points in a half is still solid and I'd take his commitment in about a year.

look at the score in some of the games.... team is up by 40....most time, starters wouldn't be in the game at that time.

Not a private school. CPS. Newer school, small enrollment. Little in common with the schools you cite (Latin, et al).

OK, we now have an extra seat on the bench for next year. How do we fill it?

If not Matthews, Alec Peters has a few days to decide whether he's staying in the draft, right? Not sure if he'd be interested, but this frontcourt would be very formidable:

PF - Alec Peters/Leron Black/Michael Finke/Kipper Nichols
C - Mike Thorne/Mav Morgan/Finke

Many other schools are a better fit for CM. Not saying he isn't worthy, far from it. His friendship w/DJW, his familiarity w/our program and proximity are definitely in our favor. But fit is very important and may trump the pro factors.

Okay. The decision on Nunn has been made and everyone should now have a better idea which way the program is headed under the new AD. Hopefully Goodwin and Tilmon step up and commit already.

He redshirts, and then steps in for Hill.

He could. Different player than Hill, obviously. Better defender and more athletic (although not ++athletic). Not nearly as good offensively. Not convinced he's got a higher ceiling than DJW.

I'm sure the comparison has been made before, but it just struck me that Jordan Goodwin is similar in a lot of ways to former OSU 3-year starter Lenzelle Smith. Similar size, build, motor, physicality. Both are very good passers from the wing. Probably athletically similar, too.

Goodwin could be a deluxe version of Smith: better handles, more assertive offensively. Thoughts?

Just so people remember, Lenzelle Smith was a borderline top-100 guy in high school, but he was a monster. Averaged something like 20/13/4 and took Zion-Benton to the state championship game.

But the key is, his growth plates are open.:)

haha - idk, looked at a couple of other sites and he's listed as 5 foot 2 so they'd better be wide open. he does have an offer from Bradley according to verbal commits but that's the only one so far.
But even if he never grows another inch and doesn't make it to a high d1 program, he'll always have this. Over 12 million views. And just saw this, SBN lists it as one of the top 10 mixtapes of all-time. http://www.sbnation.com/college-bas...xtapes-andrew-wiggins-john-wall-seventh-woods

Lets pump the breaks a touch. I'm also excited for the future, and specifically this 2017 class. But we've seen this narrative before: "Will there be enough minutes for Brunson alongside Evans in the backcourt?" If Frazier doesn't come here, I highly doubt it will be because a 3-star sophomore coming off injury and a combo-guard in his class are scaring him off.
I definitely hear you. But it will be and always should be first come first served. Williams & Pickett have committed. Illini is Frazier's favorite right now. The state is hoping for Goodwin, but this team can't wait on him. You don't need 4 wings in one class. This isn't UNLV
