2016 NBPA TOP 100 CAMP - DAY 3 REPORT
Antonio Curro — National Recruiting Editor - NY2LASPORTS.COM

NOTABLE NAMES
TERRENCE LEWIS – 2017 – SF – MILWAUKEE RIVERSIDE – WISCONSIN
Someone is going to get them a gem in Lewis as his scoring package is both versatile and improving. A solid perimeter shooting talent off the arc, Lewis impressed in the afternoon with his ability to score in a variety of ways at the mid-range level. Whether it was a jumper off the bounce or a post-up fade away over a taller defender, Lewis can make baskets and when you combine that with explosive athleticism in transition it’s an impressive blends of skill and ability that is only getting better.

COURTNEY RAMEY – 2018 – PG – WEBSTER GROVES – MISSOURI
One of the top 5 pure lead guards in camp, Ramey was solid during the afternoon as he scored on mid-range looks and dribble drive penetration while collecting rebounds and delivering a number of passes. Playing with some raw bigs the finishes on potential dimes aren’t coming as easy as they should but Ramey is generally making the correct decision and deliver the pass on time where it needs to be. He’s a high major impact lead guard who’s only getting better and on Friday afternoon he was impressive in spurts once again.

Maybe we backed off Lewis a little and put the focus more on SMith? I mean not that it makes much sense to back off but maybe there was just no interest in us.

Probably a little early to put much value on reports, especially regarding our top targets (e.g., Goodwin, Tilmon, Lewis, Scruggs). I think the landscape will become a lot clearer when these targets start scheduling visits. I do not expect any commitments at this point (unless unexpected from lower ranked recruits) until OVs start happening.

But he visited us and we are still leading in the Crystal Ball picks (not that that necessarily means much). Not sure why we'd back off. I thought he liked us quite a bit, plus I thought he and Te'Jon were tight.

I thought so too. I guess just the lack of anything coming out lately regarding us and Lewis is just a touch concerning. But no news doesnt necessarily mean anything as we have seen before. And we are continually seeing more and more about us and Smith.

I'd absolutely LOVE to have both Lewis and Goodwin on the same team, though. The tenacity of that team would be something to behold. With Tilmon added also we'd never get outrebounded or outworked.

I have no clue where we stand with Lewis, but he's right up there with Goodwin for me on the want list. He's 6'6 with a solid outside shot, can score on all three levels, and shows borderline elite athleticism. BUT, despite having NBA measurables and the right skill set blueprint, the thing evaluators constantly go back to is his motor and junkyard dog mentality. Take a kid with prototypical size, athleticism and playing style, and then make him a relentless maniac on the court, and there's a good chance you come out with an all-conference player and future first round pick.

Tugs Bowen anyone?

You mean maybe that's why Lewis didn't mention us recently? I'll take it. :shakehands:

I think it's unlikely that we get Bowen, but it's all a mystery at this point in the process. Never know.

But, he's Jason Richardson's cousin plus he's from Saginaw, so he's an MSU lock.:D

In an interview from 4/21, Bowen said, "I'm not really a Michigan State lock. I love them, though. I've pretty much been around them my whole life." He then went on to list 14 schools that are players in his recruitment, including 8 that have been on him the hardest. Illinois not mentioned.

So are we actually in good shape, like impending verbal this summer, with anybody good?

Seems like we have lost momentum that we might have had in Spring.

Yup, should come down to us, Middle Tn State and North Florida.:)

That isn't the worst company to be in, is it? After all, didn't North Florida beat us last year in a home game for us? :smash:

Sounds like nice borderline 4 star kid, but we need some help right away in 2017.
Anybody else or is the Illini brand dead right now?

Frazier is ranked #72 on Scouts for the class of '17. He's not a borderline 4 star. He can play.

Trent Frazier? Is he a fictional hybrid like Luther Powell, Jr.?

Not really a 4 star by any stretch (See below).
And I doubt he can help much for 2017.
Groce is fighting for his job and it comes down to recruits. If all we getting are a group of Top 125-200 kids we are looking at several more years of missing the tourney. Groce needs to move on if he can't recruit at a high level after 5 years.

Right now we have zero Top 100 players since DaMonte is now struggling.

Here are a few other service rankings for Frazier. There are no other High D1 schools who have offered, unless you want to count Weber. :hand:

He is 116 on 247
He is 114 on Verbal Commits
He is 146 on Rivals
He is unranked on ESPN
He is unranked in Future 150
