Not the slightest input from me on the Zoom call....but I will make this statement as fact....CoHawk is a basketball player and will be well remembered by Illini fans if he is around for four years. Like BU said, we have not seen a player with his range of skills since I can remember (which goes back to the days of Govoner Vaughn and Chesty potato chips). As he matures, gains confidence, and gathers experience, he will be a headache for any team to solve at either end....if he can continue to play as a stretch 4.

Good to hear, I think this is what we thought we might get with Tevian...I think that Cohawk has the grit and talent to do it.

Coleman Hawkins reminds me of a rich mans Anthony "Ice" Welch. I feel he sees the game well, knows the game well and fits where needed. Curbelo, Miller,Goode and Hawkins is a very solid core group to continue the University of Illinois ascension ...I...L...L...

I really like Hawkins, much more than Jones from last year. If for no other reason that he is 3 inches taller and just longer. He is what he is now a freshman with a lot of natural skills, but not a superstar. He really could be the key to not a “bubble” team next year but a really good team. If he is backing up GB then we are bubble. If he is starting or playing 25 minutes at the 4 we will be pretty darn good.
You can question his not getting 18 minutes as a freshman, but that is unfair as we have both GB and Kofi for the 5 and I think BU really wants DMw in when he can

I agree to an extent for this year, but at some point you have to put the talent on the floor. It's very realistic that all 3 of those guys are back next year, and I don't want that to prevent Coleman from getting on the floor.

Namari would fit in well as a second combo guard to start alongside Miller. Add Grandison, Curbello, Giorgi, Hawkins. Still will need a transfer big and PG(unless Trent decides to stay). Looking forward to BBV to stay healthy, seems to have the size and skill set to be a small ball 5 or 4.

Any updates on how the zoom went yesterday?
It went well as expected!! But as been mentioned before this recruitment will be off the charts quiet. The last few "noisey" ones didn't turn out well. We cannot underestimate the "Ayo story" on this one. Plus the Adam Miller/Hawkins connection is a huge plus. We have momentum in Chicago. We need to take advantage of that. Advantage UI on this one.

I like our chances on this one a lot....Coleman connection is huge from what I have heard

Even though Hawkins went to HS in California, his roots are in Chicago. His Dad went to CVS and there is a slew of Aunts/Uncles/Cousins in Chicago. His Dad comes back 4 or 5 times a year. Like Ayo, just a great family. Finally we are taking advantage of our AAU (MIF in particular), coaches and friends in Chicago connections. I've got to believe there are other "good" Chicago kids in the transfer portal. Go Illini

I can see Hawk at the 3 more than the 5. Might be an interesting line up with Goode, Giorgi, Ace and Belo. Enough size with Hawk and Goode to give Giorgi help on the boards and protect the paint.

What about Brian Cook?

Love CH's skill set. Love he's from Sactown too. My cousins by marriage who know him say he's a nice kid.

Is Mom back in Chicago?
I think she’s still in LA. She’s def “Hollywood”. She was on a reality show with Amari Bailey’s mom and a couple other Chicago basketball moms and then started her own clothing line. She was behind the idea for Nimari to have a press conference in 8th grade to announce he was going to attend Morgan Park HS.

I remember AW as "Ice" as well.

Found a recent interview with Marcus Liberty and he confirmed my recollection (2:40 in). My clock just hit 50 so I was doubting my memory and had to do a little research. Apparently his brother played college ball with the original "Ice/Iceman", George Gervin.

Schutt had 17.
If we could get them both! Boy I'd be excited! Screenshot_20210123-143407_Chrome.jpg

Nimari ran point on the team with Coleman Hawkins. Curbelo, Miller, or Burnett could all run the point.
