Thing about Coleman to me is yes, he is so gifted physically and skill-wise, but the thing that really stands out is his attitude. Obviously it can lead him to make stupid decisions like it did the other night, but I will always take the guy with a little less skill but a little more grit than vice versa (the Andres Feliz types). Those kinds of players always find a way to maximize their abilities. Coleman just always seems to have energy every game -- even on the sidelines -- and a nose for the ball. Combine his skillset with his mindset and he is going to be one fun player to root for.

We got Ayo and Kofi now and we are not a top 5 team in the country. You must be overloading on the Orange KoolAid.
I would say there is more to just a lot of talent. The mental side IMO cost them every loss outside of Baylor. They could be 14-1 right now. That is a top 5 team

Show me a team with a starting 5 of Belo-Ace-Nimari-Cole-Krutwig with Grandison, Goode, Giorgi+ off the bench and i’ll show you a top 5 team in the country.
With loss of Ayo, Kofi and likely Trent and Damonte don't think we would be top 5. Possibly top 25-30.

I really like Hawkins too and I also think there's a pretty good chance he earns significant minutes. But being the first big off the bench behind senior Giorgi and a transfer big (like Krutwig or similar) rarely leads to averaging 10+ points per game.

I stand by my opinion that if Hawkins is starting and averaging at least 10 ppg that we will be a bubble team.
I respectfully disagree. Stretch 4s are the way of the future. Hawkins has some good skills albeit still a bit raw. His upside, even as early as next year, will pay dividends.

I remember AW as "Ice" as well.

Found a recent interview with Marcus Liberty and he confirmed my recollection (2:40 in). My clock just hit 50 so I was doubting my memory and had to do a little research. Apparently his brother played college ball with the original "Ice/Iceman", George Gervin.

So glad to see Anthony's amazing career and life success ...despite me being Ice's Econ TA at U of I :)...and his insights, stories, gratitude and commitment to developing the next gen of students/athletes.

Probably not this year, but if staff didn't think there was a chance he would have been put on medical scholarship by now. BU has stated in numerous interviews that Hutch was the best athlete and best shooter on the team. Medical procedure on the West Coast supposedly helped.
That’s because for the last 15 years the best player on the Illini is always the redshirt on the bench.

BU also said Mark Smith was like Jason Kidd so...

Looks like this tweet was taken down. What did it say?
Didn’t see it, but might have been Writing Illini’s tweet that Illinois was in final 5 for Jaylen Blakes. Blakes actually was saying 5 teams that had been prioritizing him (IL being one). WI corrected it and think took wrong one down.

Might be something not supposed to be announced yet.

I agree to an extent for this year, but at some point you have to put the talent on the floor. It's very realistic that all 3 of those guys are back next year, and I don't want that to prevent Coleman from getting on the floor.
You could be right, but I really think Kofi will be in the NBA. He simply has way to much size for some team to not want to put him on their D league team. Hawkins really intrigued me as I think he is sort of like a Mike Davis type player who could really develop for us.

I wish I had any confidence I. BBV, but if he can’t get on the floor after 2 years when?

Encouraging article on BBV about a month ago but hasn't translated to minutes or any updates.

I mean... the guy has been injured. Just a run of bad luck. And now it's midway through the season so he's got a long way to gain the staff's confidence.
