Things still quiet for BPJ?? He is probably one of my favorite big guys in the class that is actually attainable for us.

Still on the board. Still has 2 OV's left. Has taken OV to UCLA, Washington, and Depaul.

I sure wouldn't mind having a kid like this on the team. :D

He barely plays on his HS team. They play 3 other bigs before they play him. I'm passing on him as it does not seem like he will contribute for at least a few years.

Let's just take all 3 of the guy's playing ahead of him then.

I can't help but think the ILLINI HAVE to land Herard right?

I mean Baylor is loaded and just got another in Flo Rida....and Maryland well they are simply loaded on frontline, especially with injuries (all of them will be back). They also have Smith and possibly Brown...where would the Haitian Sensation fit in...we have a definite spot available.

Add this previous Top 50 Recruit with Ayo and returning team (all or some), we would vastly be improved. I say we see 2 Top 50 recruits in the fold by Sunday, not Someday!

It wouldn't be the first time a recruit has gone to a school with much more big man competition than Illinois. Very frustrating considering BU offense has produced a lot of scoring options for the big man. Just look at the shot chart. I'm a little big more hopeful, considering Maryland and Baylor seem to have more bigs. But still don't understand our inability to land any of the other bigs we have be after.

How many have we been after? It's hard to jump in late, especially with big men because they are in such high demand.

Colin Castleton, he seemed enamored with Florida and Michigan even when they hadn't offered, we were the leader of teams that actually offered.

George Conditt? He was an ISU legacy.

Who else have we legitimately recruited? I think they really wanted Castleton, that was a loss.

Maybe they should have gone after Amadou Sow more

Do we think Schnider Herard is a talent? It's hard to argue a top 50 ranking & good offer list/suitors, but seems like he's not very mobile and can't shoot. Old school banger type. I realize we're hurting for bigs, I'm just wondering if we'd be excited about landing him if we weren't so thin upfront right now.

Kinda answered your own question. We are so thin that anyone taller than 6'8" should at least be given a good look at. He probably wont be a world changer for this team, but bigs aren't like wings and guards they are difficult to find.

It wasn't really my question. I get we need bigs. It just seems like there's a really low level of excitement considering we might land a top 50 player.

Spoiler alert......this is the only player they think we have a real shot at and no mention of Herard. I have no idea about creditability.

Illinois is running out of options for the class of 2018 but Tevian Jones is a player out there that I think they can snag. In fact, I have the most confidence Illinois will land him out of all the players on this list. He is a sensational basketball player and someone who can put up a massive amount of points.

All we need a big to do right now, is to alter and/or block shots. That's it. Be a defensive presence. Any points they might score are just a bonus.

Our coaching staff has its own scholarship grid apart from what is seen or talked about on this forum. You can count on it they are working on potential recruits we haven't even thought about here and we are not anywhere running out of options for next year's squad. Standby - the 2018-2019 season starts in approximately 10 months, plenty of time to pickup a really good big or two, we don't have to grasp at just anyone out there right now.

Can someone refresh my memory on how JUCO recruitments work? If they graduate from their JUCO this Spring would they be eligible in the Fall? Or do they have to sit a year no matter what?

Beggers can't be choosers. At this point the staff isn't going to find someone who is mobile, can shoot, and bang in the post. There are really only 3 types of bigs at the moment...

1) Guys like Herard, who don't have a high ceiling...but can at least hold their own on the block.

2) Athletic but extremley raw guys, like Spicy G. These guys might have a higher ceiling but won't be good contributors for at least a year or 2 (if ever).

3) Skilled guys who are soft inside, like Finke or Matic. Also won't contribute for at least a year or 2.

IMO, the first option is the best fit for us right now. The McLaurin example is thrown around here a lot. Was Sam McLaurin talented? Not really. But would we have made the tournament without him? I don't think so.

Adam Miller picking up the slack with a 36 pt, 11 rb, 11 asst, game against Dunbar.

Really though. Are the guys on his team big time recruits? Does the kid just look the part and mostly suck?

Offense is only have the game. Defensive presence and rebounding alone will have him in the starting line up as soon as he's eligible.

Wait...what? You mean they don't go by rbachhuber's grid? Well, then, what is he doing all that work for?:D

The Staff may look occasionally, sometimes, if at all what's listed here (and chuckle a bit) just to grin and talk about who we've missed; but yeah, we fans seem to put a lot of effort in and stress out a lot regarding who's up next. And yes, I like rbachhuber's grid, it's much, much better than others out there. :thumb: ;)

Division I

In order to be qualified for a NCAA Division I school you will need to have the following:

– You must have graduated from the two year school and maintain a GPA of at least 2.0

– You must have completed 48 semester hours of 72-quarter hours of credits that are transferable to Division I.

– You will be required to attended a two year college as a full time student for the a minim of three semesters or four quarters

If you don’t have the requirements listed above you will not be able to compete for a Division I school but you are able to receive a scholarship and practice with the team. You will just have to sit out of competition for 1 year. You will be known as a partial qualify or non-qualified. If you do have all of above then you will be able to receive a scholarship and compete for the team straight off the bat.

I found this online and thought it would be easier to copy than retype it all myself

Trae Young's averages would have been more than cut in half had he gone to finalist Kansas instead of Oklahoma. He made a business decision and thus far it's paying off. Who knows, maybe players like Tray, Ben Simmons, (cough) Fultz will shift the dynamic back to local schools.

Of course they would be, and of course it was a business decision, but it is on record that he thought OU was the place he should be to help resurrect the program if you will...HE wanted to be the man, and he is and certainly his production justifies it. It was the right choice regardless of reasons, but you gotta love players that want to rep the state school! :chief:

He is plenty mobile to pull off the high screen and roll, dump down for a dunk. He is a lot more forceful than Ebo...he should be much bigger.

Let him do the half court damage and Ebo run the court and do the slashing damage with oops etc!:chief:

The only reasons that there isn’t a high level of excitement is that 1) He’s not a freshman and 2) Hasn’t produced high at the D1 level.....

3) we're a snake bitten bunch

I don't think anyone really cares if there's a dominant force in the paint (though we wouldn't mind it :D ) as much as it can match up against opposing front courts. We have a good situation with at the guards and wings to carry us to the next level. :illinois:

Just seems odd that it is Feb. and we have a one player recruiting class. I am sure we will look the 5th year transfer route hard for a big but for the most part Illinois has had pretty limited success going that route. Significant progress in terms of wins and losses is going to have to come sooner rather than later or it is going to become harder and harder for Underwood to recruit the type of players we need at Illinios as a winning program trumps everything else.
