So is their list of hits. What's your point?

My point is that everyone misses. It's a fallacy perpetuated on here that, "well gee, if only we had gotten player X Y or Z things would be different". Every team can say that. It's not an intelligent argument to make to solve our problems. Every miss doesn't turn into an All-Conference type player. Hindsight never, ever, netted us a win, in any sport. For every one of our misses that turned out well for another team, there are many more we missed on who didn't fair well, even with the team that got them. Besides all that, those you listed haven't played a game of college ball yet, so who knows??

You're changing the argument. I said the only way out of the crap we're watching is through recruiting. That's a fact.

A coach can only do so much you've got to have talent.

So like verified insider said, our margin for error is small. MSU missing on the #5 player in the nation and landing the #12 Is not even close to us missing on the #65 guy and landing #212 (for example).

We're not in bad position but we've got to land some key players. We've got gaping holes in this roster. The 3 freshmen guards will eventually be the backbone of some very good teams but not if they have no front court to help them. Ebo looks like a Big Ten player but not a future star.

Hence if we don't land Okoro and Liddell we're in trouble, because who are the backup plans? It doesn't get any easier to land top 40 recruits folks. Both at positions of great need to where we can offer starters minutes as a Fr. Both downstate Illinois kids, both have close friends already on the team. 5 star pg committed to help get them the ball and some good young guards.

This is similar to the Lon Kruger days. The 4 downstate guys Cook, Williams, McClain, and Griffin brought the Illini back. We need Liddell, Okoro, and Miller (counting him as a Peoria guy) to do it for Underwood.

The problem is I don't have any real faith we'll land all 3. You can't play as bad as we are and land these guys when we are going up against win at all cost recruiters.

College basketball success is not about who you miss, but who end up getting. You can miss on tons of players and still end up with players who can get you to where you want to be. Self missed on tons of players but still got Dee, Deron, Augie, Luther, and a verbal from CV.

There better Illini basketball does, the more top players we will be on, the more players we will miss on. They key is who you end up with, not who you miss on.

Herard was the 247 composite #47 recruit in 2016, however he is clearly the #1 recruit from an ink standpoint!!

I am worried that we’ve got playing time for bigs that can be had literally tomorrow and we’re losing guys to a Maryland team that has a relative logjam in the frontcout.

Our team is awful. Why in the world with someone with no connection to the team or state come here.

That is why I posted that it is imperative that we get Liddell and Okoro. These guys fill specific holes, have strong connections, and are very good.

I was one that didn't really want Tevian Jones because I didn't see how he fit. I have since changed my mind. We need talent of any kind asap.

He was. He had to in case he decided to come to Illinois. It just doesn't matter if he drops out before attending a class eligibility wise. That's nothing new nor is it even debatable. He was enrolled.

Personally I think this kid is a headache.

I think we are still 2-3 years from getting the things people want consistently. Bigs or no, next years team needs to show upward projectory. Other programs have proven you don’t need to win to land big recruits.

We need to have some sort of attraction. I am still hopeful Bwood and company can do that.

Can we bring the chief back please??

Because in the grand scheme of things, “connection to team or state” is a thing that message boarders feel matters like 80% of the time when really it’s more like 20%. Guys want to play.

Not really. It's not a coincidence our 2 best signees came from the state and Tht wanted to.

If it was about p.t. Castelton or Herard would be coming here.

First step in rebuilding Illinois will always start with regional strength.

You're seeing first hand how worthless national ties are when your program is a sunken ship.

And our MVP is from Florida and committed to the captain of said sunken ship because he had a chance to take the reins of an offense.

It all depends on the player. If there is a connection that can be built on it can make up for a losing program. If there isnt a connect you need to sell them on something which in that case was playing time.

In the case of Liddell and Okoro it's literally a combo. Can basically promise playing time to go with the connection.

Illini alumnus and fan since 1983. We built our success on landing in-state players. Last two periods of success was led by central Illinois(Cook, Peoria 3) and Chicago metro(Head, Dee, Auggie, Powell). To be successful, BU needs to land the majority of primary instate targets. Need Okoro and Liddell like we needed Damonte, Smith, and Ayo.

To challenge nationally will need to land those out of state players occasionally. Trent and Ebo are a solid start.

Not landing big men is puzzling. Even Depaul landed a good PF freshmen and grad transfer big. Maybe we land one in the spring but need to get bigger next year.
