Backup to Tevian Jones, the kid is local so to speak and looks like he has an awkward style about him. Can score either hand, looks to love to penetrate the ball...we could use that?

Says K-State and St. Louis has offered, not us per 24/7?

Hearing that we're in a pretty good position with Ramey. His dad and Walker are apparently friends. Sounds like we are going hard after him. Can't have too many scoring PGs.

Man, that would genuinely shock me.

I would gladly take the kid. No doubt about it. But the only reason why I'd see a top-50 PG joining 5* PG Ayo and stud freshman PG Trent Frazier is if this is the basketball gods paying us back for our PG drought during the Groce era.

From Piper on Werner's show this morning, it sounds like the staff thinks Ayo, Trent, and Ramey can all play together given their length on defense. That will apparently be the sell to the Ramey's, along with proximity. The other schools involved (UCLA, Texas, OKST) are all longer treks.

Yeah, couldn't get one for years, now we may have a bunch. Can't see why they couldn't play together just like the 3 guys from '05 did. Villanova's recent success shows that can really work as well.

I'll believe Ramey's going to Illinois when he signs his LOI. I'll believe we have a legit shot if he takes an OV.

Yeah, if he visits, then I'll start paying attention.

Until then, I refuse to believe we have a chance here. Maybe it's my battered fan syndrome and our long history of nut punches.

Is there some personality feud between Ramey and Cuonzo Martin or something? Given Mizzou's need for guards -- and their talent in the frontcourt -- how on earth is Mizzou not the frontrunner here?

I read somewhere that Ramey's parents won't let Mizzou anywhere near their son. I could be considered tantamount to child abuse to allow your son to be coached by Cuonzo, lol.:D

This would be the most un-Illinois development since...*scratches head*... maybe getting Charlie Villaneuva to commit?? (Of course followed by the most Illinois thing ever with Self leaving and CV de-committing...)

Correct me if Im wrong, but you can only take 3 OV's right? Not saying he has to OV here for there to be legit interest and given the distance to the other three schools he's scheduled (OSU happened in Dec, UCLA and Nova in Feb) it would make at least marginal sense not to "waste" an OV to UIUC. Also think you can do less on a non-OV so that also is a little worrisome. If Walker does get him to commit somehow, props to the success (so far) in South/West Illinois and St Louis. Hard to get guys to commit to a program like our right now. I can see the coaching come out in these players at times, really just a talent deficiency that would push us over.

I definitely think it would be possible to have a backcourt of Frazier, Ayo, Ramey, and Smith, especially if Smith can become even stronger.

247 doesn't even list us as having offered Ramey or recruiting him at all.

Obviously inaccurate, just humorous how out of date those sites can be.

Not an insider, by any means. Ramey's dad is a long-time AAU program runner/coach. Their entire college deal is getting Courtney to the NBA ASAP and putting him into a program that best develops him in the interim. Guessing he's none too impressed with Cuonzo's track record (rightfully so, FWIW). The proximity factor helps us a bunch, I figure. But is that enough? Coach, scheme and backcourt should be appealing. Big holes in our frontcourt though. Getting Gordon too, would obviously be very fortuitous. I definitely think Ramey doesn't have to have the ball in his hands all the time.

Far too early to be penciling Ramey into the lineup.

“New schools that have really turned up their recruitment are SMU, Illinois, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, South Carolina, Mississippi State,” Terrell said.

That sound you hear is a point-guard desperate Mizzou fan base screaming that the Tigers should be on this list.

“I think they might think they don’t have a shot,” said Terrell of the Tigers, making sure to mention that he considers himself to be friends with Mizzou’s Cuonzo Martin. “It’s not that they don’t like Courtney, or that we had a bad fallout. Maybe they see the schools or think he’s favoring somewhere else. It’s a weird deal.”

Who is the best shooting senior? Frazier is the best shooter on this team, with exception of Black, but his are mostly 10' and in.:chief:

He's referring to AJ, who statistically is out best 3 pt shooter..

51% for the year compared to TFs 32%

In conference, AJ is 38% compared to Trent's 33%

Hey, I recognize that language! That's usually the type of cryptic, inexplicable stuff that's reserved for us!

It's the curse of in-state recruiting. You're expected to sell out for every in-state prospect. When you don't (for whatever reason) it ruffles lots of feathers. In a way, recruiting out of state is simpler, you avoid the politicking that goes on between local AAU teams and college programs.

Time to start believing we have a legit shot. Visit looking likely. Unsure if UV or OV, but staff is trying their hardest to get him on campus.

BU is selling Ramey on starting next year with Trent and Ayo. I know it sounds like a lot of guards, but having 6 guards (Trent, Ayo, Ramey, Mark, Damonte, Tejon) wouldn't be too bad. Especially those 6.

Round out the class with a big guy and Tevian Jones and that is a big turn around. (1 transfer in that scenario)

AJ is limited to say the least, great kid for the team. He shot lights out against inferior competition, and it is catching up to him. Plus Trent "literally has to bail" us out repetitively and more often than not does...Trent is our better shooter by far.

Ask BU who gets the ball in his hands at games end and who he trusts to come through. Just saying it is Trent every time.:chief:

Trent is obviously having the best year of all the freshman guards but let's not pencil him in next year's starting line up just yet. Mark Smith (and maybe even Demonte) still has a higher ceiling. He very likely will make the leap and be the player will all expect him to be.
