Luis Rodriguez officially visiting next weekend: https://twitter.com/coreyevans_10/s...OPS-Recruiting-thread-Next-109537369?Page=142

6'6" wing that we offered a couple months back, but it had gone quiet. UMass is the only other team that seems to be recruiting him hard. Good defensive wing apparently, but I haven't been overly impressed by what I've seen from him offensively. Guessing this is a backup for plan for Jones.

FEB 10TH VISIT, Umass prior, no early commitment expected. Doubt he ends up here. Jones will be here with Ayo, and whom....Ramey?

Tev Jones, grad trans big, and Ayo. Don't mind developing young big like Ebo. As long as they respect the process.

I had seen that when I read the article. The kid like all deserves a second chance and the ILLINI would be an ideal place for him with 2 players possibly 3 from his homeland on the team.

I wonder if he can play soccer well like Ebo ?

Supposedly a bar fight got him kicked out. Would be a tough sell to the AD imho. I think we land a big next season.

Lots here seem so confident we are going to land Jones. Why is that? Lots of other teams have turned up heat on him recently.

So in two years...we could very well roll out...

Ayo/Ramey
Frazier/Lucas
Smith/Jones
Liddell/Kipper
Okoro/Spicy G

Next year...

Ayo/Ramey
Frazier/Lucas
Smith/Jones
Kipper/Finke
Black/Spicy G

I seem to be much more worried than most here about:

1 - Black, and or Finke deciding they have given the Illini all they can give, and will go seeking the big dance as grad transfers. Coupled with the obvious lack of bigs we have signed up for next year.

I’m personally tired of seeing all the lists of who we can roll out in two years when time after time we have been nut punched and beat out by others for guys on said lists. I’m also not real interested in thinking about what if in 2 more years; NEED TO WIN NEXT YEAR.

As it stands now we will witness much of the same next year with our roster imbalance, lack of athletic bigs, and better distance shooters. I REALLY want to be surprised with late signees, transfer ins, etc.... but our record isn’t helping attract talent, and should we lose one of the above, WOW!

I agree here. I could see a scenario where we lose both Finke and Leron. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but it is very possible.

Anythings is possible, but I don't see that happening. Both of them have their best opportunity here. Neither would be a star in a better program. I can imagine they would want to go to a lesser conference.

I can see that too, but hopefully it doesn't. The only reason I see it possibly happening is they see a better chance to play in the NCAA tourney, but I think if we can keep the team together we will be dancing next season.
A years experience & work during the offseason will help our young players. Added to that ,some of our opposition are definitely (or in some cases i.e. Michigan State probably) going to lose some of their best players.

Bigs, as in those that operate in the paint? Or bigs that love the 3 point line and have good optics near the basket?

Just asking.

I think this is more likely

Trent/Ramey/Lucas
Ayo/Smith
Kipper/Williams/ Fr wing
Black/Greg
Finke/ 5th year big

Finke starts over a transfer because of experience in the system to start the year. Also I think all 5 of the guards I have at the one and two are interchangeable based on matchups. If Ayo and Trent start together Trent’s going to bring the ball up most of the time (being the older guard) and guard the smaller defender.

Man if Finke is our starting center next year I will be extremely disappointed

Seems like maybe there were other factors and that was the last straw? If it was just the bar fight, seems kind of hasty to kick a freshman off the team.

We had a guy a couple of years ago get arrested after a bar fight. I think the second chance was a pretty good idea, and so far has turned out great.

I expect you will be disappointed. The chances of getting a freshman that can beat him out are near zero at this point. A Grad transfer is a crap shoot & would be highly sought after if he is good enough to beat out Finke, that leaves Ebo & Matic beating him out. No reason to expect that much from Matic next year or that he is more of a 5 than Finke. Even if Ebo were to stars at the 5, it isn't likely to matter much as Finke will still likely play starter minutes.

Can anybody confirm that Tevian Jones has not taken any OV's?? Thus, the rumor of clearing house issues might be in play.

Backup to Tevian Jones, the kid is local so to speak and looks like he has an awkward style about him. Can score either hand, looks to love to penetrate the ball...we could use that?

Says K-State and St. Louis has offered, not us per 24/7?

And our best shooter, who will be a senior, is where?
Maybe this will look better:
Trent/Ramey/Lucas
Ayo/Smith/Williams
Kipper/Jordan/ Fr wing
Black/Greg
Finke/ 5th year big

Who is the best shooting senior? Frazier is the best shooter on this team, with exception of Black, but his are mostly 10' and in.:chief:
