I'm all for getting players that fill roles that are currently lacking on the roster. We lack athleticism and rebounding on both ends, Trice would add that immediately. The question marks are obviously about his offensive skill-level, and his ability to guard the type of bigs he'll be up against in the B1G (his current opposition is looks woeful). Regardless, I think Trice could be a nice role-player and energy guy off the bench. This team needs that.
I'm guessing that Trice is still a back-up option at this point given that the staff is supposedly still hot after a wing, 5th-year big, and Courtney Ramey. We can't Crean everyone.
Demarius Jacobs is an interesting offer. I saw him play a few times when he was still at Uplift in Chicago with his brother (Kansas commit Markese Jacobs). This kid has some fire, almost to a fault. I watched him go toe-to-toe with Ayo at the Proviso Tournament last year and hold his own extremely well, but the game heated he was nearly thrown out (and I think his coach actually was). We need some of that fire, but it would be something to keep an eye one.
Jacobs likes to get out in transition and has great athleticism. That being said, I'm not sure how good of a half-court offensive player he'll be at the next level. He isn't a great outside shooter, and at 6'3", you wonder about his ability to get to the hoop (paging Mark Smith). On balance, I think I like to offer to Jacobs, especially because I think he could be a very good defender, but he's not a sure-thing contributor at a B1G level unless his outside shot improves.
