I'm not in the camp of Goodwin is a must get at this point, definitely not more important than Tilmon because of position need. But that's ok, no need to split hairs between nice to have: must have at this point.

Question back though: At this point would you hold a scholarship for Goodwin (assuming someone like Eastern/Tilmon/? wanted to commit)? Over sign for Goodwin? (Over signing with 6 potential scholarships likely might be a stretch, but maybe use all 6 & leave none on paper for 2018)
You oversign for Goodwin or Tilmon. No question about it.

I love the oversign hypotheticals. When have we ever had this be a real issue?

It's an issue on message boards, it doesn't really exist elsewhere. It's a myth that will never go away.

Generally agree in a normal year, but with potentially 6 scholarships 2017 and none in 2018 it is not a normal year and I think there are questions about it. I think the strategy will probably be more plan on a 5th yr big or 2 (immediate help to replace graduated Mav & Thorne (or his 5th yr replacement) for number 6 or 5/6 & if you hit on a 6 scholarships then you give up this 5th year options, so it is hard for me to imagine an over sign when you have 6 scholarships already.

With this in mind, I think we may hold a scholarship for Goodwin with 5th yr as the back up plan, getting very picky with another wing/g, but if we pull the trigger on scholarships 3-6, not sure we have room for Goodwin, but the last guard/wing will have to be good enough to pass on Goodwin.

Timon is a bit different since we will have only 2 senior bigs left at this point plus Kipper. We need to get a big on board, really would like 2. I don't see how we can grab 2 bigs in the next 4 scholarships that are good enough to pass on Tilmon. Still think the more likely scenario is we take 1 big, hold one for a 5th yr to cover us for 2017 if Tilmon doesn't sign.

Also if you take 6 freshman in 2017, 2018 decisions start getting tougher. So it just seems more likely that we hold a scholarship at this point rather than over sign.

Now with everything going on, the roster could blow up & we not have 6 scholarships, but that is a different discussion.

You sure about that?

No we've never gotten there by the beginning of the next season, but I'm pretty sure you could find some former Indiana kids that don't think it is a myth. We have certainly tried to over sign and it has certainly affected the quality/quantity of who we chase and when we pulled out. To date we have come up short of 13 vs. over 13 ; but we have also used that to pick up 5th yr transfers like Thorne/Lewis and Kipper mid year. Just because we haven't actually achieved an over sign, doesn't mean it hasn't impacted recruiting.
