worth the read if to only learn just how many players are actually dying for an Illini offer...count me in the camp that chastain is a player who will will wish we had..ha..didnt know Happ wanted to come here?

What? Happ may have liked Illinois as a kid or something but that dude was all Wisconsin in HS.

That's because he didn't. He committed to Wisconsin as a sophomore in high school - he barely had a recruitment and certainly wasn't favoring or waiting around for Illinois.

I grew up in the QC's and am really excited when I see a Prince article. Similar to Paul Klee, I think you better read what you can as there is no way he is going to stay in that local journalism arena for much longer. Too good.

There is a lot of truth to the lack of interest in the Happ recruitment. Everyone was scratching their head when Bo signed him. What is misleading about the article is that Happ wasn't dominating the local competition. I think Happ was just "growing into his body" and really took off right after he committed.

Here's what I've dug up on Terrence Lewis:

-Averaged 22 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for Milwaukee Riverside, which finished 22-4 and was highly ranked in the state all year (#2 for most of the season)
-Shot 63/121 from 3-point range (52 percent, 2.4 made 3pt/game)
-Averaged 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks; shot 79% from the free throw line
-1st Team All-State as a Junior (Honorable Mention as a Sophomore)
-Milwaukee co-POY
-Terrence's father, Tyrone Lewis, is the coach of Riverside
-Plays AAU for Playground Elite

In an AAU event recap from last June, Scout described him as having an "elite motor" with "long arms and high level athleticism." If all that is true and he's a legit 6'6 with a G/VG outside shot, he'll end up ranked a lot higher than #100 (current 247 composite). Those are top-50 traits.

It sounds like going into last summer the biggest question with Lewis was his jump shot. Apparently, he showed improvement in that area on the AAU circuit and then shot extremely well all high school season. He's also grown from 6'4 to 6'6 over the last year. My guess is that one of two things could happen over the next 12 months: he could top out at 6'6 and prove to be a streaky shooter against high-level competition, which means he'd probably give us another Aaron Jordan (not a bad thing and definitely worth the scholly, IMO) OR he could prove to be a deadeye outside shooter, grow into his body a little more, and maybe top out at 6'7. In that case, he's probably a top-50 guy and a day one difference maker. The big thing to look for is how his shooting holds up at national events this spring/summer.

Nice one Greg. I'm looking forward to seeing Playground Elite this summer. Seems like Lewis has a great HS season, but after seeing a few Milwaukee area schools this season, I'm not convinced that the level in that area was very high this season.

Go after Lewis. First word I saw describing him is tough (ie. rebounds). Lord knows we need more of that.

First I've heard that Aaron Jordan was a streaky shooter. Wasn't he the best shooter in the state as a Senior in HS? Spotty minutes as a College freshman will make anyone a streaky shooter. I would bet that Aaron is once again a great shooter once he gets consistent playing time.

Yes, Jordan was considered one of the best shooters in the Midwest. He was streaky this year with being a freshman with limited playing time.

I get excited about Prince articles because I enjoy reading about the Illini, but I have him at the McColley end of the "journalist" spectrum.

Literally couldn't read on after the first sentence.

"College basketball recruiting is a funny and weird game anymore, almost to the point that highly skilled basketball players are constantly being overlooked because of the “recruiting game.”

Columnist: "I'm working on a column about how small school kids get less attention than big school kids."

Editor: "Is that news? Or even a recent development? Isn't that like, the theme of Hoosiers?"

Columnist: "I mean, sort of. But I'm guessing that it's probably even more of a thing now."

Editor: "Um, ok, but either way how can you make it timely and new? It sounds like you're just kind of winging this."

Columnist: "What if I open with some meaningless scare quotes?"

Editor: "Sold."

Good one - works almost everytime. ;)

For what it's worth, I fully expect Jordan to be a good college shooter the rest of his career.

My main point is that AJ seems like a good comparison for Terrence Lewis at this stage: 6'5 to 6'6, fringe top-100, long and rangy, solid athleticism, dominant scoring numbers in high school, impressive but not elite in national AAU tournaments. Jordan as a freshman was up and down but showed flashes; I think that's the probable floor for Lewis. Ceiling could be higher depending on a few variables.

That was a "tough" article to read. Too "many" quotation marks in "unnecessary" places.

I always enjoy your breakdown of these guys. Nice work. I also think Lewis looks like he could put on a lot of muscle after a few years with a s&c coach. Could be dangerous with those long arms.

Was there a reference somewhere in the last few pages that Lewis and TJL are friends? Or was that just speculation because they are both from Milwaukee?
