My take on Jay Williams' comments:
"Jay wouldn't tolerate the character issues"
- Isn't the staff waiting until the legal process runs it course before making a decision? Obviously, guilty charges resulting in dismissals from the team?
"You got to be able to play the game in Chicago."
- This has to mean bending/almost breaking the rules in recruiting. One thing I cannot stand is the arrogance that is possessed by the Irvin brothers. They think that they should be the one's in control and holding the keys to whether or not UI can become a top level program again and sometimes they just need to be put in their place. They teach their kids to jack Illinois around and play hard to get like a middle school girl. What I appreciate about Groce is his willingness to go elsewhere to get recruits. JCL from Indy, LB from Memphis, TJL from Milwaukee. If the Irvin's seriously get butthurt about Illinois going and getting these guys, too bad. Our program shouldn't have to pine for your players and have to put all of our eggs into the basket of the Chicago hype train. While I think it is important to have a presence in Chicago recruiting, I appreciate that our staff knows when to put their foot down and go get good recruits from elsewhere. The Irvin's and the other arrogant corrupt fools need to respect that.
