What do we expect from Javon Pickett for those who have seen him? It seems like he could be a very smooth scorer

He reminds me of Stanford Robinson (Indiana to Rhode Island) with a better 3-point shot. Very wiry strong and aggressive at trying to slash to the hoop or his spots on the court, and tough, a lot of his full games or highlights online are him banging into people to create contact.

Jerry Hester-like then?

Jordan Goodwin is underrated. I think he is a great player right now(top 50 talent IMO) but can you imagine if he grows 2 inches. IMO he would be a top 10-15 player in the country. I just feel like there is something really special about this kid. The all-around player that i just love to watch. The all-around player that Illinois so desperately needs.

The 2017 recruits we have on board now and our targets seem really gifted offensively, but how are their grade outs on the defensive side of the ball? I haven't been able to see much of anything outside of clips and we all know those are usually offensive highlighted, but are they shutting their guys down on the high school level?

I want Goodwin so bad it hurts. I think I want him even more than I want Tilmon. While Tilmon seems like a possible one-and-done, I really feel like Goodwin could be our version of Draymond Green. Just an uber-tough do it all kind of guy that will be here four years.

Ah, now you got me watching Illinois - Duke highlights from Cameron in 1995 on YouTube. What a great game. Garris, Hester, Keane, Gee, Notree, Gandy, Turner... Brett Robisch! And against Caple, Wojo, Collins. Good to beat those guys, and break the 95-game non-conference streak.

Kinda like Sergio McClain.

Kinda like Sergio McClain.

Everyone's going to opt for the Green analogy, no offense to McClain. A late growth spurt and I can see it. Intangibles for Goodwin are through the roof. Very high ceiling, best case a Green-like career.

That's the other obvious comp if you want to keep it Illini. Seems like Goodwin has a more developed skillset away from the basket. My knowledge is second hand though, haven't been able to see him in person. Fingers crossed they make it to state and I can see him then.

Excellent point, This year's freshman class overall, grades out very poorly.

They really can't be much worse. For one, the '17 guys we are on are all already more physically developed than any of AJ, JCL, Finke, etc. were coming in for their respective positions. Da'monte already looks like he has a college ready body (good genes there), and from all reports Goodwin is as good defensively as he is offensively. He would certainly add toughness. Tilmon (if we got him *please please please*) with his length could be a defensive stopper the likes of Egwu, but with way better hands and offensive game. He's already a great rebounder.

I've seen him play a dozen times or so and this is the comp I normally go with. He's a shorter version, but plays very similar. Not saying he is Green, but it's the closest comp I can think of.

Watching the clip from the tweet below makes me realize how much I miss having a guy like Lucus Johnson on the current Illini. Not sure who we are recruiting that could be that guy for us?

Frank's body control was amazing. And Lucas Johnson was beautifully annoying. Classic Lucas! #dechr https://twitter.com/GToohill/status/704767798740971521

I sure miss those days - nice to be able to put 3 McDAAs on the floor at the same time.

Here's a question for someone who has actually seen Tilmon play. What is it that makes him a 5 star player?I seen his freshman and sophomore stats on a site and they were far from eye popping, around 9 points a game and 7 rebounds. Is this another ranking based on potential instead of actual results? Not putting the kid down or anything just wondering why he's so highly ranked.

Tilmon showed very well @ some nationally exposed camps--Chicago Summer Classic AAU, NY2LA Futires Camp, and CrossRoads Elite Camp in Nashville. He was either the best or near the top at all 3 of these and they were viewed by national guys like Snow and Bossi. His show out @ top 10 LaLumiere has not hurt. Finally his offer list shows high high major offers--Roy, Izzo, Crean, Smart, Alford and Self have all seen him and want him.

His highlight video (I know it's a highlight video and not the full picture) is incredibly impressive. Kid has a big frame and knows how to use his height well.

Has a lot of room to develop some serious muscles that would make him very powerful down in the paint.
