But we are probably in worse shape with them than we were a couple months ago, right? I hope to get them both but hope Groce has a backup plan for a big in 2017.

We are in better shape with Tilmon than we have ever been.

This is just a complete guess but I wouldn't be surprised if both Tilmon and Goodwin don't do the televised announcements and are more likely to go the Da'Monte/Pickett route and announce quietly to the coaches then share on social media. Both kids seem more reserved than others who we have recruited lately. I really hope both make decisions prior to the summer being over. I haven't heard or asked but I will ask if Goodwin is planning on playing football again next year. The team lost the starting QB and one of the better WR's but have a lot of other weapons coming back and will probably be one of the best in the state again and he would be one of the better receivers if he played. Selfishly I hope he commits to Illinois before football season and chooses not to play his senior season of football at Althoff.

If anyone is in that area, Champaign Central will be playing in Mattoon Friday night. I remember a few people saying they wish they had a heads up earlier in the week.

What time? Malcolm and Michael were at the previous game on Tuesday.

I was one of those. And I will be there this time. Work all dayam day in Toon Town, might as well grab some wings at Bdubs between work and the game. Oh yeah, will grab a couple of those liquid relaxers too. :thumb:

I wouldn't say that no. I think the only difference is that more offers are rolling in.

He is planning on playing football his senior season

So I have asked my friend about his plans. He doesn't know for sure. He said he wants to play but in the end he might be encouraged to sit out and stay healthy for basketball. I stated earlier that I hoped he would sit out and already be committed but you are only young once. The football team will be good again so if he really wants to play I hope he does. Later on in life he will always wonder about it if he doesn't play.

Thank you all for the posts reaffirming Illini's standing with Goodwin and Tilmon. I'm glad the news is still positive despite the new offers for both.

Goodwin and Black on the floor together would be bullies and would bring the toughness Groce needs. Lucas and Monte will give Groce the pieces he needs to get out and run. Tilmon is the kind of big man you need to be successful in the Big Ten. All of this opening up the finesse games of JCL, Finke, Jordan, and Pickett. Very exciting to think about!

Exciting move up the ladder for Tim !

Found it interesting that of the first 13 players (the 5 stars), 10 are forwards, 3 are guards. Is that because the F's are the best players or because they are sort of rare and therefore more valuable?

Looking at rankings 26-50, there are 15 Guards, much more like college basketball in general, which is a guard's game.

Just thought it was interesting.

What does the staff need to do to get over that last hump though? That is what has me worried.

Tilmon has to make it public. He has already committed. Now, that could obviously change.

Williams committed to Groce a couple of weeks ago. Sunday was just the public announcement which is obviously way more important.

Ah, the old "silent verbal". I hope this one is more of the Damonte variety and less of the DJax variety.

I assume Damonte waited so as to not steal too much of Pickett's thunder. I will say I for one enjoy the DJ Richardson/Brandon Paul style domino 1-2 punch commitment style. ;)

Only instate player.

I'm surprised there's no Kezo Brown. I'm sure other players will emerge to make the Top 100, as well, but for now 2018 is looking just as weak as '16, '14, and '12. What is it with even numbered years in State of Illinois basketball lately?

Why do you think he committed already?

Come again? Is this like Tate saying that J. Evans and C. Alexander verbaled then bailed?
