Not sure this comparison really holds.

I don't think we are in any position to be questioning the talent evaluations of Iowa. Maybe they aren't pulling in top rated NBA quality talent but they are sure doing something right. I can't agree with the "good thing we didn't get that guy" take on an Iowa recruit. They seem to be doing something better than us. Oh sure- go ahead and take your talent Iowa...you enjoy that overrated NCAA tournament...we'll just be here holding out for something better.

I watched the game Saturday night against Althoff and Cook was not impressive at all. That being said, it was just one game.

Cook has actually been slowed by a back injury this year and missed a few games because of it. He was matched up against Goodwin for a good part of the Althoff game and Goodwin makes a lot of people look bad. I'd take Cook in a heartbeat since we can use more big athletic bodies down low.

I didn't think Clemmons was a senior?

It's going to be a whole lot of Jok for them next year. I feel like Dom Uhl is their only young guy who gets tic, and I'm pretty meh on him. Solid athlete, good rebounder who plays hard, but I don't see him remotely capable of replacing the seniors production. Fran should have solid classes coming in the next couple of years, but losing two pg's, a center even if people don't understand his worth, and first team all conference pick Jared Uthoff should have them taking a step back next year.
Clemmons and Gesell are both SRs. That will leave them with Brady Ellingson, Andrew Fleming, Peter Jok, Issiah Moss (kid from Simeon who played with DJW) and incoming unranked recruit Jordan Bohannon. Looks like Bohannon will be the guy that's could run the point, because I don't see anyone else as a true PG. I think they will take a big step back next year. One thing Fran has going for him is that he has 2 kids in high school who both look like damn good basketball players. So he has 2 sure things locked up.

I want to see what they look like next year with the top 2 pgs on the roster leaving. I know Mike Gesell has his flaws, but he has ran the system how Fran wants it run for 4 years. I want to see how that team looks next year with zero experience at pg.

Ok- but this year is this year and they look pretty good.
And trust me- I despise Iowa so that is a tough truth to face.

Yeah, he was getting the ball taken away from him an awful lot in that game, didn't look great, but like you said, one game. I've seen him look a lot better in other games. I'd love to have him in our 2016 class. He's going to be pretty good by the time he's a sophomore, and a beast as an upperclassmen

Have you ever watched him in person? He is like Leron only a little more skilled most likely. Pretty similar players though. Similarly ranked as well. High motor, good rebounder, aggressive, generally what you might call a pitbull. If he had more range he would be much higher in the rankings. I mean Cliff became a top 10 recruit by dunking a lot so Cook's rating is that high.

I definitely woudn't say say hes more skilled than Leron. Cook is more athletic but not near as good of a mid range shooter. I also think Leron is the better rebounder. I still am really high on Leron though.

Iowa's started no less than three juniors/seniors for the past four years, and this year they have five. No disrespect meant to McCaffery as retaining and developing talent is crucially important, but if you want the secret sauce there it is. It ain't all raw talent that's causing them to succeed.

I hope we eventually go down that path, too.

It bugs me when people say he was rushed back. Perhaps, perhaps not. Please acknowledge that it is an assumption, not a fact. Having been injured myself on multiple occasions, I can tell you that I am the one rushing things, not the docs. It's hard not to keep moving. When you've been active, last thing you want to do is sit on your butt. Especially when people are counting on you. My kid is the same way. Kid drew blood on him on a play and he hid it from the refs, because he knew he'd be taken out. Sometimes kids just want to play.

I'm not blaming anyone. The player is always going to want to get back on the court ASAP. Watching Leron this season it was clear to me he wasn't healthy. Im sure everyone thought he was going to get healthier game to game. When all involved realized he wasn't progressing, they shut him down indefinitely.(not blaming anyone, it happens all the time)

Let me clarify... I agree that Leron's mid range is probably slightly better than Cook's but Cook's post game is better. I think overall they are similar players.

I thought I read somewhere that Leron banged knees with someone pretty hard in the first or second game he was back. Anyone else read/hear that?

Is this just a feeling you have or do you have a reason for believing this?

It's no coincidence that the last two years of successful Iowa basketball have come with a handful of four stars and a guy playing way over his head in Aaron white. I'm not saying I'm writing anyone off that they've recruited. But outside of cook in this class, go back and look at their recruiting classes after the gessel/Woodbury class. If Groce was pulling that in people would've wanted him booted a while ago.

True. Was meaning 1 or 2 good years doesn't mean you have it all together. Not sure iowa is the measuring stick we are judging our selves on.
