and if so, what time is it exactly?

About 7:30pm tonight at Whitney Young. Saying "about" because WY plays against Vincent (Milwaukee) right before with the game starting at 6pm. So it will be after that with enough time to warm-up etc.

No idea about TV or stream.

Of course. Identifying them after they play is easy. The hard part is identifying them before they play.

Of course. There have always been multiple non-top-100 players who have gone to become stars in college and pros. Nobody has denied that. Just that the chances of becoming consistently a good team without higher ranked talent are a lot less.

Hey, look at Scottie Pippen!!!

Or the reigning NBA MVP...would be a great research project to find common attributes of the under rated players who have ended up with extraordinary improvement and success... I read that curry was ranked 245th player.

Pretty sure it was sarcasm. Heirman responded to the tweet, didn't seem to take it as anything else.

One thing I noticed is a fair number of former NBA players kids, who are not highly rated, who become stars or very good players. Theres obviously exceptions but as I have stated many times before, its in the genes and I like to recruit those players. Even ones with no obvious connections to the program, we may end up being their best offer and they accept. A risk/reward type of thing I suppose. IMO probably just as good of or a better gamble than any 3 star player. Probably even low 4 stars.

Thomas was extremely well known as volume scorer with great handles his whole hs career. Lillard, Curry and McCollum are a few of the guys to point out when talking about rankings not being everything. Robert Covington who prepped in the Chi and played collegiately at Tenn St. is another.

Shane Heirman ‏@ShaneHeirman Jan 28 @BSnowScout no arguments here lol

yeah, I'd say they're good friends who like to take a jab at each other.

And as for Washington-Simeon, definitely no Cube or NFHS and I'm pretty sure no TV. These kind of shootouts are usually about gate receipts, especially when two teams are traveling in from out of state. I can't remember any shootouts in the area being on the Cube in the 3 or 4 years the Cube has been in existence.

Seems like TJL had a very good 2nf half to bring his team back after a mediocre 1st half.

Good to read that both Parham and Dee were in the gym watching.

If we can't get Tim Finke I'll probably take a step back from Illini basketball. It would make me absolutely sick if he signed anywhere but here, but if he goes to OSU...Buckeye vs Illini games in Champaign would definitely be pretty awkward for him and his family, especially his freshman year when Michael would still be here.
It wouldn't make me upset. The decision is in his hands, not his brothers and his family. The decision will come straight from him. Will there be family conversations about his recruitment? Sure. Will he consider other schools? Sure. It's not a lock he's going to Illinois.

One factor that I can see him consider Illinois is Michael and how he has progressed. Given Finke's first year on the hardwood for Illinois, I think that's a true testament of how the coaches have played a part in helping him get better. To be honest, Finke has exceeded my expectations this year. I think he's done better than what we predicted before the season started.

With that being said, let Tim decide where he wants to go. If he chooses Illinois, awesome. If not, I wish him all the best and hope he's successful at what he does academically and athletically.

Good second half in the Simeon-Washington game. Here are my (very amateur) observations about the game and our very own Te'jon Lucas:

Game was controlled early by Simeon, particularly on defense. They went 2-3 and peppered in some Box-and-1 to get TJL out of rhythm. He got in the lane for some runners and pull up midrange jumpers, but missed most of the ones he took in the first half.

Evan Gilyard was able to turn the corner get in the lane a few times against TJL early. He moved on to guard Zach Norvell before Washington went 2-3 in the second half (sparked their run). Did better against Norvell, who wasn't too much of a factor. Gilyard's speed gave him some problems.

In the second half run, TJL hit some of the shots he was missing early. Washington played better on defense and got out to some breaks. Early on he pulled up for a really bad jumper on the break, but the team settled down and started passing better. TJL had some nice finishes and made an effort on rebounds. He has a nice runner/floater game, but I'd like to see some more consistency and range on his 3 pointer. He can definitely hit them (and is definitely a much better shooter than Tate right now), but the ball came off his hands to the side a few times. He also leans into his free throws, I think he missed 2. On a Simeon technical, he wasn't the one shooting. On the break,

Lucas played the whole game, and avoided getting too deep into foul trouble after picking up 2 in the first quarter and another in the third. He was clearly Washington's best athlete/player and is going to be a good college player, but I think he needs some time to develop and acclimate to the college game. I hope he can learn from Abrams and Tate while playing decent minutes as a freshman, but don't think he's an immediate game changer. I found myself debating what he'll be for us next year with our PG situation, but I think a fair set of expectations will be to expect him to really lead as an upper classman. I wanted to make sure I got a fair evaluation of his strengths and weaknesses and not be too biased either way. His 3/4* ranking seems fair to me. I'd probably rank him around the 100 area for now. I don't think he's the program savior, but he's definitely a great piece to add and I'm excited about him coming to the Illini. One of his family members saw my Illini hoodie and we spoke about that briefly, and she was clearly excited about his choice. Just my impression after meeting a person around him, I'd probably root for him no matter where he went. I-L-L

*Disclaimer: This is the first time I've seen him live, so opinion of his game subject to change upon further review.

Good report.

Seems like a fair evaluation with reasonable expectations.
