Like wow, I can't believe how many times people can fall for the same things here.

Each year I get all fired up when the talk of recruits coming here is at a fever pitch and each year I say I'm going to stop following recruiting.

The first step is admitting you have a problem....

In any event...I want a class of Tilmon, Williams, Pickett, Goodwin, and Smith.

Goodwin looks like the type of player that can lift a team.

I haven't ever seen Goodwin playing in regular game footage (only some highlights), but the way he is described by many (winner, tough as nails, competitor, may not have a clear position but that doesn't matter) reminds me a lot of the way Sergio McClain was described. Can someone make the case that Jordan's game will translate to college better than Sergio's? What are their similarities/differences?

Thanks.

He is more like Rayvonte Rice with a team attitude. Leads his team in scoring and assists.

Much better offensive player than Sergio.

Tray Buchanan a true 6'1point guard from United Township made the AP class 4 1st. Team a a jr. He and Pickett were the two juniors on the five man team. He played his soph. Year at Simeon. Is he worth a look? I know he is a 2 star, but that could change now that he made class 4 first team.

At the 2:27 mark, that's what Illinois needs. Watching the tourney this week it's crazy to see these talented point gaurds get to the bucket and create.

That was a sweet move. I wish I could do that once in my lifetime, but its too late :(

How do you guys feel about Evan Gilyard?

I think the risk with Gilyard is that his offensive game doesn't develop and we're left with another PG that teams don't have to guard. Not saying that's definitely what Gilyard will be by the time he gets to college, but that's the risk. He also doesn't have the passing vision at this point that you might want from an elite PG.

That being said, there might not be a better on-ball defender is the state than Gilyard. He's really capable of shutting down talented players. He did it to Charlie Moore and Te'Jon Lucas (for most of their game) this season.

The summer is going to be huge for Gilyard. If he can show the ability to knock down outside shots consistently and setup teammates, then I think we need to take a real serious look at him.

Nice summary. Thanks

One thing seems sure at this point, if we choose not to offer he will go to a Dayton-type program and help them make the tournament every year while we falter.

As a matter of fact, Miller phoned Henricksen about point guards, Joe recommended Gilyard, Dayton offered the first game they saw him and have been after him very hard, so your scenario is quite plausible. (As related on a NoShotClock earlier this year.)

I cant express how important it is to have Malcolm Hill and Finke regarding recruiting.... Both are very close and are down south guys. Hill is respected in the area as a great player and an even better person. This is a KEY factor in getting Tilmon and Goodwin in my opinion. If Hill is "recruiting" these two and telling them all the good things, and hopefully telling their family all the good things its the only chance we have of getting away from the recent arrests. Innocent until proven guilty but the media doesnt portray it that way.

Seeing a great kid like Hill that is from that area really goes a long way in recruiting. If it wasnt for Hill, I think we would really have a tough time landing Tilmon and Goodwin. I guess if there is any sort of positive about these arrests is that they are not NCAA problems, and we cant receive bans, losses of scholarships, tournament ban or anything like that.

Was thinking the same thing. Gilyard fits that Dayton mold really well. He's athletic and scrappy. Miller loves those kids because he believes he can teach them the rest once they get on campus.

I think the issue for Groce is that he doesn't fit his mold of a PG. Groce wants a scoring PG to run the ball screen. Gilyard isn't that. He's a disruptive defender and energy player at this point in his career.
