If it is indeed true that we have lost out on JGood, I'm a little disappointed because I really wanted him and that 'refuse to lose' mentality, but I'm also fine. I think that class is already good enough. Give me Frazier and Kiir, and I'm glad to move on. We have enough wings anyway.

There's a lot more to the recruitment and switching to SLU last minute that makes you quiver at what kind of person Travis Ford is and what J-Good really values...just the worst...

I, for one, will have no problem if Jordan Goodwin goes on to have a horrible / Cliff like career at SLU.

Wish I could post everything; it's appalling

So, here we are again at a crossroads with some deja vu (and it's not even the Illini's decision to make), asking - what will Goodwin do? Well, he told us he'll make it official on his birthday, so I guess it's time to standby and let it happen. Lest we forget, previously it was thought by some it would be close to the end of the world if the following players went elsewhere other than with our beloved Illini: Evans, Brunson, Simpson, Norvell, Lovett, Jackson, Moore, etc. Goodwin is a coveted player that would add another dimension to the Illini next year, without a doubt. Yet, it's best to learn from history - recruiting is fluid - so it's best not to put all your hopes on one player that could burst your bubble in a heartbeat by picking the other hat. Check out the scholarship grid again - coach and staff ain't done recruiting yet since there are numerous other really good players that can fit in just as well. If Goodwin goes elsewhere, so be it; if he's with us, that's even better.

Sorry but if Goodwin wants to be a pg then good luck and don't play here. Just because he is a bulldog doesn't mean he will be a great pg. in the B1G I don't think he would translate into a pg very well. Frazier or Goodwin I would take Frazier all day every day. I liked Goodwin as a player but he was never a need or a must get. Everyone assumed get Goodwin get everyone else. That wasn't the case and now Goodwin is going to a mid major to play. Sad part is he wants so bad to be a pg but he won't make it to NBA as one. Ford can't turn him into a stud pg. Honestly if true i think it's a good thing. Get another big and Frazier call it a class.

Aside from being disappointed to not get him, I'm not looking forward to seeing more of the hiring of people close to key targets as a recruiting strategy. Smart tactic if you're a struggling program, but it just feels a little dirty to me.

Teams like Kansas and Duke have done this for years. Particularly Kansas

I don't fault him for choosing SLU, it's his career. But from the sounds of it, after 2 years of a really good and close friendship with Groce and our staff, he's just cut them off totally. Pretty cold behavior.

pretty shameful, sounds to me like he's selling all of his positive traits down the river

The part that doesn't make since is the fact he feels he is underrated. Ends up at a mod major and expects to be considered elite.

Travis Ford is Steve Alford-lite. He is ALL about himself and his career. I guarantee he is going to be selling a couple good recruiting classes as a way to get a Power 5 job within next 3 years. This guy DOES NOT want to be at SLU long term at all. Take it for what it's worth, but this is what I've been told by multiple people. Ford is a DO ANYTHING to get a recruit guy for his own benefit only....

Losing JGood obviously sucks, but he's made his decision so it's time to move on. Not like we haven't been here before, losing out on a recruit, but we just have to keep chugging on and get the best players available to make our team succeed. That's just how it's going to be so we just have to go with it and make the best of what we've got.

Also, after reading the SLU message board posted on here earlier, where has the SLU hatred of Illinois come from? Has it always been like that or is this just a recent thing because one dude just really seems to despise the Illini. Plus, multiple of them seem to think they are a Final Four lock after landing JGood. I thought we were a bit looney thinking top-10 Cliff made us a F4 team, but a barely top-50 player making a team Final Four worthy? That's a good one.

Granted, I don't know as much about what went down between JGood and SLU, but I'm not prepared to throw a high school kid under the bus until...

... you know, actually, I'm not prepared to do that ever. These are kids and it's important to remember that. Ideally their university of choice turns them into men. Wherever Goodwin ends up, I hope he does well. If Ford was a dirtball, then screw 'im.

No question that JGood is a stud with the heart of a lion, but he wouldn't play the point at Illinois. We need point guards and big guys. Get Frazier and Kiir, then call it a class unless some superstar like Scruggs wants to join. I'm happy as heck about 2017 if that happens, even without Scruggs.

Would love to have Jordan but Tilmon was the player Groce had to get. Stay focused on the guys we're getting. Still not giving up but seems like Jordan is being sold something that SLU will never deliver on.

Exactly what i said and agree. To many freaking out on losing him but he isn't a need like most thought. Most thought he was the glue guy for the others to come here but he wasn't. Everyone else came without him. Sure he is a bulldog but so is Pickett. Wish he would of came but bright side extra scholarship for a position of more need.

Goodwin is the same person, and has always been, whether he ends up at Illinois, SLU, or elsewhere...

Not happening within 3 years.

While I would love to agree with you, no one saw Alford being hired as the UCLA coach either....Coaching hires are as predictable as a Tim Beckman press conference. You never know what might happen...

This guy truly believes he should be a top Power 5 coach

I was at a coaching clinic one time where Ford was a speaker. The whole time he was doing his thing I couldn't help but wonder to myself how in the hell this guy was a D1 head coach. He was terrible talking Xs & Os but great at blowing smoke up your !!!.

Alford spent 6 years at New Mexico.

It would appear from the way Kiir dribbles and handles the ball, he could sub in for Frazier!

Classless, IMO. Goodwin can do whatever he wants. I can see why he's choosing SLU. OTOH, the spurning of our staff, after all the love showered on him...no bueno.

Plenty of guys who spurned other staff to come to Illinois late in their recruitment despite all the love showered on them by other programs, including Nunn, JCL, Serge/Marcus, etc.

You love it when it happens to you, hate it when the players head elsewhere.

You guys are forgetting we're talking about a 17 year old kid. Maturity and wisdom go out the window in these situations.

Can't believe this stuff still catches people off guard. :D
