Disappointed to read the smoke rings on Goodwin.

Really hope that this does not affect Tilmon in any way.

I wish Goodwin good luck in his decision as I refrain to tell why it is such a Horrible decision to head to SLU for him. Last I heard you can catch a Billikens game on the radio if you are within 100 miles.

Groce and company put a ton of effort to convince him to be a part of the Orange and Blue. In the end the staff did all they could at Illinois for over 2 years with this young man.

I think Frazier 4 star PG could bring everything that Goodwin offers with better shooting including toughness.

Assuming all this is true I wonder how it affects the relationship between Goodwin and Tilmon

Where is all the news coming from then? Made up, BS, someone speaking for him, or kid is talking?

No one said someone isn't talking, just he isn't. I was told on Monday that it would be surprising if he took visits at all and likely headed to SLU. I don't know when the "2 week blackout" started. Asked tonight what in the world was going on and my source said its just gotten strange, and what a peculiar way to end a recruitment. I've convinced myself I am an innocent pawn in an elaborate hoax on the Illini fan base! If I hear more I will certainly share.

Very cool of you to share, thanks. Makes sense that others are talking, after typing my post I realized that had to be it... Your posts here helped to deflate the confidence that we would get him, which is really appreciated. Easier to take this way.

He's responding on Twitter, even if he isn't to coaches.

I sincerely hope you aren't the one that tweeted him that. Talk about ways to put a recruit off...

Aside from being disappointed to not get him, I'm not looking forward to seeing more of the hiring of people close to key targets as a recruiting strategy. Smart tactic if you're a struggling program, but it just feels a little dirty to me.

Kind of like the 16 fathers (er, Assistant Coaches) you see on high school benches these days.

The worst result of this recruitment? Even though we got a verbal from JT, the Groce haters will come out of the woodwork in the future and go on and on about how HE lost JG. Even though JG may commit to SLU, what else could JG have done to get the commit to the Illini? Unless Coach was willing to dive head first into the cesspool, there was no way to win this recruitment. I appreciate Coach's effort on landing JG.

On to the next player who truly wants to be an Illini!:shield:

If he thinks SLU is the best place for him, I wish him luck. This is his college choice and he has to do what he thinks is best for him. I would love to see him in an Illini uniform, but you win some and lose some. The 2017 class is still in good shape. We have 3 talented players committed. If Groce can land Frazier and a big, the class will be a resounding success. The sixth scholarship would go to a no-brainer recruit or roll to the talented 2018 class.

Groce went out and got Pickett,Williams,Tilmon ( all friends of Goodwin and damn good BB players ). They have talked about how great it would be to play together. Let that sink in.....

Well that was definitely posted from an Illini fan to Goodwin. Sad part it just makes the guy asking look like an idiot.

The morale of this all (if it goes down as is trending) is that Illinois got outgunned by SLU. Think about that for a second. A school that graduates little over 10K+ students a year and considerably less alumni just outgunned a B1G institution with 50+ students a year and a multi-billion dollar endowment. Our booster network is a big work in progress, but in Whitman I trust.

I'm excited about the two wings who have yet to play at Illinois, that is Kipper and Javon. I'm excited to see how DJ our 6'7 wing (top 50 recruit) and Jordan have progressed.

We have a couple of great combo guards in JCL and Damonte will get there as well.

Instead another wing I would prefer a 17 big (Kiir) and PG (Frazier) and 4th year transfer big out of North Carolina.

Our endowment is pretty weak and closer to 1 billion, compare to Harvard and Notre Dame.

Not against a strategic hire as long as it doesn't set a bad precident, the coach must have some credentials. Tate which SLU hired did have credentials (to go with his AAU ties) for a 3-4th assistant.

I agree leave the kid alone, he is the one who may end up at SLU that is punishment enough. This reminds me of the Morgan Park player who plays PG for Depaul (they hired his dad). Kid likely would of been our starting PG for 2 years, instead he plays in empty stadiums against weak competition.

Or it could be Northwestern's fan

The way things have gone today, I wouldn't be surprised if a Bills fan opened an account (at Ford's request) to pose as an Illini, just to make sure that JG won't waver from SLU...:thumb:

Still have a lot of hope with this class no matter Goodwin's decision

Did we really get "outgunned" or did we just choose not to play that game? I'm not saying Groce runs a completely clean program because I have no clue. But if I were to push the limits of recruiting, or just flat out cheat, it wouldn't be for a top 60 wing. Not worth it at all.
