Unfortunately SLU is in the drivers seat at this point.
I can't imagine they would be able to maintain any lead they might have at this point after he takes an OV to Illinois. The staff will pull out all of the stops for this one and the atmosphere on campus will be tough for SLU to match.

Just sharing what I'm told by someone who knows. Amazing the collective meltdown and bashing when it's news you don't want to hear!! Fingers crossed that something changes, but today, that's the news!

Thanks for sharing. Still got some time to go. Hopefully things swing back around to us.

I don't get it. I understand the closeness factor, but Illinois has been in on him from Day 1 and one of his best friends just committed to UI.

I don't think UI Basketball is near the same level as they once were, but they are still night and day difference from SLU and that crap conference.

UNC and Kansas fans were saying the same thing (besides crap conference) when Tilmon committed.

Nothing in recruiting makes sense

No need to panic. It's far from over. Wait for it to play out. Illinois has a lot of things to sell, Tilmon being one of them. Hopefully once school starts back up, AAU personnel will take a little bit more of a back seat. Goodwin is a kid that likes the attention and wants to prove himself on a big stage. Ultimately, I have a hard time seeing SLU meeting those criteria.

How long has SLU even been recruiting Goodwin?

It will truly be Goodwin's loss if he goes to SLU. Maybe it won't matter in the long run, but he could be remembered as one of the guys that helped put the Illini back on the map and you know how the Illinois network after school works for these guys. SLU can offer none of that and can't believe just having your AAU coach as an assistant would trump all that.

Unfortunately SLU is in the drivers seat at this point.

Highly possible that the Corey Tate hire swings things in SLU's favor. Backup plans for Goodwin include Nojel Eastern, Justin Smith, and Abu Kigab. I expect that we'll get one of the four; the staff has clearly been making sure they have Plan B and C options available in case Goodwin goes elsewhere. There's even an (extremely) outside chance that things could heat back up with Jarrett Culver or Victor Bailey (both will probably stay in Texas, but they've had quiet recruitments).

Hopefully, we can overcome the Corey Tate and 30-minutes-from-home factors and land Goodwin. I believe he's a program changer in terms of both talent and leadership.

It's more than just Tate. For one thing, I would imagine Ford is mentioning "Marcus Smart" about every third word to Jordan.

The Ohio reference seems a little strange given his age. Just a talking point from the coaching staff being repeated or is Ramey a ball historian?

That was my first reaction as well but makes sense if you think about it. Groce is selling him on how his ideal offense runs through his point guard only he hasn't had a capable one in the mold he envisions here yet so he is shows him Ohio video of DJ Cooper. can't fault him there.
