The Ohio reference seems a little strange given his age. Just a talking point from the coaching staff being repeated or is Ramey a ball historian?

Illinois coaches probably gave him video to look at.

His dad is a big time coach and he's been immersed in hoops his entire life. Hoops junkie.

Goodwin is farther along and definitely my preference between the two, but Eastern has tremendous upside. He has a chance to be a special player in a few years. If we miss out on Goodwin, Eastern would be a heck of a consolation prize.
Eastern lacks the intensity and fire that Goodwin predicates his game on. Eastern is very DJW-esque. Versatility always seems to leave you wanting more.
I believe Eastern wants Michigan State, but they want to see how the Scruggs situation plays out first.
Brian Bowen is their top priority.

Eastern has said he wants a situation where he can get early PT. Teams like Illinois (even without Goodwin) and Michigan may be too deep on the wing to be able to make a good sell. Ohio St or Purdue may make the most sense for Eastern.

Interested to know how people would rank the '18 and '19 point guard recruits:

Ramey, Garland, Dosunmo, Walker, Campbell, and Jacobs. Gotta think one of those points guards would be a program changer in the biggest way. Imagine getting two, whose styles would go well together and whose would clash?

Ramey and Jacobs for me. But it'll never happen. I don't think a '19 PG is going to want to follow Ramey (or Dosunmu). Garland? Maybe.

Good question. I'd say of those, Ramey, Dosunmo, Walker, and Jacobs are the kids you have the best shot at. I think Garland and Campbell will be tough gets. If I was Groce, here's how I would prioritize PGs:

2018:
1. Dosunmo
2. Ramey
3. Garland
4. Castaneda (wait and see guy)

2019:
1. Walker
2. Jacobs
3. Campbell

Jacobs is in a different dimension than Walker.

Curious how the peanut gallery ranks these guys as well. Seems like the general consensus has been Dosunmo&Campbell will ultimately get their 5 tom cruises. I don't see either of them ending up in the orange & blue. As for the others, seems like Ramey has good all-around pg skills w/ size and plus defensive potential. Gotta love Garlands craftiness. But it seems to me like Markese Jacobs might have as high an offensive ceiling as anyone. He's crazy explosive and can shoot.

For sure. Same with Lewis. Point is, if Goodwin is still on the board and we're still in pole position, do you take Eastern?

At the current state, with the programs we are going up against for Goodwin, I put all the chips in for Goodwin. You didn't go to every one of his games to grab the rug from under him.

If we win and succeed the next 2 seasons I can see a '19 pg being sold on playing together. But as of right now it won't happen. I like Dosunmu and Walker maybe as 2 to play together. Although they would need to develop an outside shot

And gladly sing Happy Birthday on any day Mr Goodwin wants to celebrate it.

I think I might just be slow to pick up on this kid. Can you elaborate?

Totally blew up this summer on the Mac Irvin Fire 15u team, which if it stays together should end up being the best MIF team ever. Team includes Adam Miller the freshman to be at Peoria Manual, said to be the next big Peoria phenom and Kahlil Whitney, who Henricksen raved about all during his freshman year at Chicago Solario but who is transferring to a New Jersey academy for his sophomore year. Team is just loaded, but Jacobs probably projects as the best prospect among many. Groce watched them this year and Parham watched them a lot. As mentioned, Jacobs already has an offer from Kansas.

OTOH, Marquise Walker (St.Joseph) was the starting point guard on the Nike South Beach EYBL 15u Peach Jam champions for that age group. We got in on him very early, offering him before the spring/summer sessions started.

Thanks Mike! Informative as always :thumb:

I've been totally tuned out over the summer and missed this kid's rise. Hope he stays at Uplift, that's right down the street from me so I should be able to catch him live this HS season.
